I like the story idea. The only downside was that it reads like a young reader book. Maybe I didn't read up on it good enough to know if that is how it was intended. You can predict what is going to happen next. The writing is done from a young girls perspective, and everything the characters think is explained to you. It felt a little rushed. Everything happened so fast in the book. Almost like the story was there, yet it needed to be filled in more. Some of the characters behaviors were too unbelievable, and you had to really stretch your imagination to see them acting that way.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if there was war everywhere? If you had to hide in a cave/cavern just to stay safe? If there were prison camps being run by the rebel armies, where the prisoners were tortured, raped and starved? Can you imagine what life would be like?

Well, that's the world that 17 year old Phoenix lives in. Through her journal, you see how she got to this safe haven she now calls home. How her parents, and others around the state, pooled their resources to create this cave of safety. You also see how she grows into a young woman.

Life is normal, or the norm of that time, until Jayden comes into her life. He is (of course) gorgeous and perfect in every way. Except, Jayden isn't human.

Plot: There are a lot of angel/fallen angel books out right now, but I really enjoyed this book. Its not just the story of an angel falling in love with a human, it's the story of a fallen angel coming back to the light, with war and anarchy all around. The story moved at a great pace and everything made sense, and went perfectly.

Characters: Each character had depth and emotion. This is the first book that has made me tear up in a long time, and it wasn't because of something great or horrible, but because I could feel the love John (the older brother) had for Phoenix. My brother sucks... so I kinda have a soft spot for AWESOME older brothers.

You felt for Jayden, the fallen angel, despite being "the bad guy." You cared about the supporting characters, Sadie, Brian, and you hated Jessica. None of them fell flat.
Romance: There is more than one romance story going on in this book. You have the MCs- Phoenix and Jayden. But then, Sadie (the best friend) may get her own man.

Since I've gotten my Kindle a month ago, I've been a complete book junky. I learned very quickly that books start adding up very quickly. So I went on a free book spree, downloading every free book that seemed worth my time. This was one of the best free books I have downloaded! You can't go wrong with good versus evil, and when you throw demons and angels in, its bound to make a great story! The characters were so believable in the way they thought. You can really believe that they are real people actually going through this world-wide holocaust. At first it was a little difficult knowing when she was in the past and when she wasn't. I really hope that we, as a human race, never have to go through this. It was a great book though and I can't wait to get the next one!!

Wow! What the heck happened? This book started out really good. The first few chapters were engaging and the characters were interesting. However, it seemed like the author left the building and her teenager took over writing for her. I won't go into spoilers, for those of you who only listen to the great reviewers and read this book, but I will tell you that once the "love" relationships are introduced its downhill from there. What a waste of an awesome concept for a book. :(

I like a bit more spice in my romances. This is a good little romance for youth aged reader's. It was about teenagers finding love during some pretty hard times.

Bored, the girl was practically useless and naive. And people fell in love way too fast. Also there was a lacking of action despite the fact one of our characters is in the middle of it.

Really bad writing, very puerile plot and nope I couldn't finish it, stereotypical adolescent schlock!
I feel it you can pick up this book for free you've clearly been rooked out of priceless reading time you'll never, ever be able to get back again. Download with caution.

One star is pushing it. I hate to write bad reviews because it takes a lot of effort to write a book but I don't think a lot of effort was put into this one. If I start reading one I have to finish it but I was glad when I was done.
