Midnight Hero, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Midnight Hero (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Mass Market Paperback)
Book store owner Bailey Chambers can't get past her fear of losing her Sexy SWAT cop Conall O'Rourke to the hazards of his job. The childhood fear that she'll lose him the way she lost her father. She breaks up with him saying its for the best, but Conall doesn't think so. Con and Bailey end up in the middle of a dangerous bank robbery at the mall where Bailey works. During this time can Bailey overcome her fear and let herself love Conall? Can Conall convince her that past fears shouldn't stop the love they have for each other?
The first in the Forever in a 24hr Day series, this one kicks it off. You almost immediately want to learn more about the four SWAT brothers and can't wait for the next story. Diana Duncan sure knows how to keep your interest with her stories and I couldn't put it down, much like the following two books in this series.

The Perfect Romantic Suspence Novel, June 22, 2008
This review is from: Midnight Hero (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Mass Market Paperback)
I cannot praise this novel highly enough. The characters are three-dimensional, their actions make sense, and their personalities are totally likeable. The plot is fast-paced and has many twists and turns. The ending is the perfect finish and so romantic that it practically melted me down into a pool of slush. In short, Midnight Hero by Diana Duncan is not to be missed!
Bailey Chambers works in a bookstore and is naturally averse to violence and danger. Her father, a fireman, died during duty when she was a teenager, and she doesn't think she can cope with a partner who works in a dangerous job. She has been dating Conall O'Rourke for the past six months, and they are both deeply in love. However, Conall is a SWAT cop and used to putting his life on the line. At the start of the novel he has decided to ask Bailey to marry him, but before they can decide on whether they have a future together, both Bailey and Conall are swept up into a hostage situation in the mall. They have to tackle their own demons as well as a gang of ruthless criminals...
Although the plot may sound fairly standard for a romance novel, the way it is handled by the author makes it stand out head and shoulders above anything similar I have read in years. Bailey and Connall are both wonderful characters and two of the most realistic I have ever read. They are thoughtful and kind and noble. Frankly, I was cheering them on from beginning to end. Connall is as tough and masculine as any hero, but he is also not afraid to tell Bailey how much he cares for her. In too many romance novels, the hero almost has to be forced at gunpoint to admit his feelings, and this book is a refreshing contrast to that.
The book is set over only one day, and yet the author really gives you a sense of how Bailey and Connall's relationship has developed over the previous 6 months. I loved the descriptions of how they met and their previous dates. The book also has a great balance between action and romance - the characters are together almost constantly and the suspence elements never get in the way of the developing relationship.
Overall, this is a truly wonderful book. It made my heart pound and also made me laugh and cry numerous times as I was so wrapped up in the danger and romance. I have already read another one of the 'Forever in a Day' series written by Duncan, and it was just as satisying as this one! Of course, I've also placed an order for all of the other books written by the author and can't wait for them to arrive.
A highly recommended 5 star read!
