Book Description

Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. There's a mix of humor, pathos, and serious observations in approximately 12,000 words.

Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (This is the short story that inspired my novel of the same name.)

The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his wife and children.

Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years.

Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires.

Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme.

Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely collection April 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Of feel good stories! We could all use more "feel good"
I found this author through a friend who suggested I read Serendipity House. That book was also very well written.
Character development and story line in all the shorts are very good.
Would highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet retrospective on life May 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
A collection of five short stories, Midnight and Holding presents vignettes of everyday life. Nothing gory, heart-stopping, or extreme in any way, but quiet poignant observations.

Easy to read and very enjoyable, Ms DeBacco has a calming style of writing. She manages to draw you into a world that seems to move a little slower and allows the reader to connect with the characters, as well as their feelings and situations. As a bonus, her work is extremely well-edited - a pure joy to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart touching collection of short stories May 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was several short stories that had a moral type backing... Such as don't work too much, but put your family first. Kind of feel good stories, or realize your life isn't as bad as you may think it is. I enjoyed the short story break, rather than the longer / supernatural stories, or even series books I had been reading. There was a touch of supernatural in these short, refreshing stories. Kind of an Alls well that ends well feeling. They were not extremely exciting, but I did find some humor in the pages as well as good sense people might consider on their daily journey through life.

I personally enjoyed the refreshing, good wholesome type endings. One of the stories is expanded on in a longer book, and I enjoyed these stories enough that I will read the longer book as well. Sometimes it is good to take a break from the fast paced, supernatural, paranormal, mystery that I usually read and slow down with a book more about feelings and real life thoughts and situations. Even though these stories had a bit of supernatural, they were slow paced, easy, calming type reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Collection of Short Stories.... May 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
it's always good to have a short story collection on your Kindle for those in between moments: waiting in a doctor's office; or you just finished a longer book and not sure what to read next. This collection filled the bill nicely. The stories were just the right length. The topics were interesting. Each story was unique in its own way....and only one was predictable from the opening sentence - I will leave that for the reader to see for themselves.

More About the Author

After reading women's fiction for many years, I finally decided to take the plunge and write my own stories. One of my books, Serendipity House, was named best indie romance for 2011 by Lynn of Red Adept Reviews. As the mother of four grown daughters, I'm familiar with the problems women face finding love, raising children, and stepping back when necessary. That's why family dynamics play a large part in all my books. Sibling rivalry, drug abuse among teens, and problems with spouses figure prominently in all my stories. Of course, there's always a touching love story threaded through the pages. Who doesn't love a good love story? I can be found most days secluded in my office creating new worlds and people to populate them. When I'm not taxing my brain with plot, structure, and grammar, I like to sew, particularly quilts. When I really want to rest my brain cells, I sprawl out in front of the TV and usually fall asleep. Please visit my website, for more information about my books.
