Book Description

Set in the opulent world of the 18th century aristocracy and inspired by real events, Midnight Marriage is the standalone second book in the acclaimed Roxton family saga.

Two noble teenagers are married against their will.
Drugged, Deb has no recollection of events. Disgraced, Julian is banished to the Continent.
Nine years later, Deb falls in love with a wounded duelist, only to later discover it is her husband returned incognito!
Can Deb forgive his cruel deception? Can their marriage survive beyond seduction?
Meanwhile, Julian's nemesis plots to destroy them both...

With witty prose and a deft palette of historical detail, Lucinda Brant delivers another lavish 18th century experience in her trademark style: Heart-wrenching drama with a happy ending.

What readers say about Midnight Marriage

An emotional journey worth taking with a no-nonsense heroine and a TDF hero...   There was nothing disappointing about this book except that I wanted it to last forever...   Plenty of subterfuge in this tale, with several subplots skillfully woven throughout...   Just as I thought Lucinda's books couldn't get any better, this did...   Engaging, authentic, and comfortably paced...   Settings, outfits, and behavior of the characters are portrayed in delicious detail...   Impressive; sequels aren't generally as powerful as the first book, but Lucinda Brant proves the exception...   Worth every penny...   A marvelously gifted author...   Now I can't wait for the 3rd book of the series...   Bravo Lucinda!

Variations in grammar and idiomatic speech are used to evoke the Georgian world.

About the Author

When not bumping about Georgian London in my sedan chair or exchanging gossip with perfumed and patched courtiers in the gilded drawing rooms of Versailles, I write historical romances and crimances (crime with lashings of romance). They are all set in the 18th Century, spanning 1740 to early 1780s Georgian England, with occasional crossings to the France of Louis XV. I pull up the reins at the French Revolution - where I lost a previous life at the guillotine for my unpardonably hedonistic lifestyle as a layabout aristo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant, a book review March 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant is a Georgian romance inspired by true historical events. In Midnight Marriage, a young girl of only twelve and a rebellious youth are wed in a ceremony conducted in the dark of night. Then the youth is whisked away by his father, and the young girl returned to her bed. She does not clearly remember the incident as she was drugged. Years later, as an adult, she meets him again but does not realize she is wed to him. He wishes to win her heart without her knowing of his noble title, and on his own merits. They wed again as adults. The rub comes when she learns his real identity and realizes that she has been deceived.

There is plenty of subterfuge in this tale, with several subplots skillfully woven throughout. This well-written historical romance clearly illustrates the author's talent for story-telling. It is engaging, authentic, and comfortably paced. The dialogue is believable and stays true to its period. The settings, outfits, and behavior of the characters are portrayed in delicious detail.

This is a book I would highly recommend to any readers who like a sweet historical romance rife with intrigue and complicated by societal expectations of the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Georgian Historical Romance you have to read! March 6, 2011
By Melhaf
Format:Kindle Edition
"Well if you like "Noble Satyr" book one of the Roxton series, you are going to love "Midnight Marriage" by Lucinda Brant. I seriously have devoured Lucinda as an author as her writing flows so well for a book of this era. Lucinda captivates you from the beginning and you won't be able to put this down.

This wonderful Georgian Historical Romance involves a captivating young lady with striking red hair, Deborah. She is a breath of fresh air and goes about her ways inwhich she shouldn't for a young lady unwed. Any gentlemen would indeed love to take her hand in marriage on her beauty alone. But she isn't interested in anyone for his noble status, she is waiting for mister right, a man that truely, deeply loves her and her alone.

Deborah continues to measure every man up to the man she dreams about in her sleep. Dreams of this perfect man that has invaded her nightdreams since she was 12. Does she find this man? Or Does she do the right thing and marry a man to uphold the families reputation.

I like that this book can be read as a stand alone book, but you will love it that much wanting to know more about the roxtons: "noble satyr is the 1st book of the series then "midnight marriage". And yay book three is in the making right now.

All i will say is that there is a midnight marriage.... sword fights and carriages pulled along coble stones with beautiful ladies dressed in gowns ready for a ball. Just as i thought Lucindas books couldnt get anybetter, this did. So sit down, relax with a
high tea and your best sunday dress on, loosing yourself in the world of the Roxton series. (Roxton is a Duke by the way). :)

It won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rake Returns for his Bride October 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Impressive! Sequels aren't generally as powerful as the first book, but Lucinda Brant proves the exception.
This is a sequel to 'Noble Satyr'. Both books have a Heyeresque feel to them and as I said in the first books review, that is a good thing. The historical backdrop of Georgian England (Bath)/France (Paris) was still there (foreshadowings of the French Revolution and unrest), but the focus was on the H/H. The intrigue and plot turns were good- things are rarely what they seem. I like how the story begins with an inexplicable event and then unravels to explain it and the consequences of it. The characters were ones with which I could be sympathetic. It was nice to meet up with favorite characters from the first book and oh so bittersweet to see them as the older generation. -; But that is life.

Good Read!

Good reading, however, it had a tendency to ramble about things not really related to the actual story. I might try another one of Lucindas books just to see if it is any better.

More About the Author

NEW TO MY NOVELS?
I write Georgian historical romance and crimance--crime with lashings of romance. All my books are set in the 18th Century, spanning 1740 to early 1780s England, with occasional crossings to the France of Louis XV.

ARE THEY FOR YOU?
If you love BBC Classic Drama, Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, 18th Century history, or romances with plenty of wit and adventure then give my books a try. You'll find a world of determined heroines and heroes, an eccentric character or two, and a weave of subplots to keep things interesting. They don't conform to genre formulas and have been described as "a throwback to the Golden Age of romance, but with a modern voice" and "heart wrenching drama with a happily ever after".

Historical detail is important to me but above all I want you to be entertained.

'Quizzing glass and quill, into my sedan chair and away! The 1700s rock!'
