Book Description

July 12, 2011
The good news: Director Tobe Hooper has been invited to speak at a screening of Destiny Express, a movie he wrote and directed as a teenager, but that hasn’t seen the light of day in decades. And Hooper’s fans are ecstatic.

The bad news: Destiny Express proves to be a killer . . . literally. As the death toll mounts, Tobe embarks on a desperate journey to understand the film’s thirty-year-old origins—and put an end to the strange epidemic his creation has set in motion.

Featuring the terror, humor, and sly documentary style Hooper devotees remember from such classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Midnight Movie is vintage Tobe Hooper, again demonstrating the director’s place as one of the godfathers of modern horror.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Midnight Movie is all Tobe, all brilliantly excessive and funny. Very cool, very enjoyable." —John Carpenter

"Uses horror tropes with considerable skill and ingenuity...Hooper demonstrates an undeniable talent." —Publishers Weekly

"Tobe Hooper is a Texas original and a great American filmmaker. His novel Midnight Movie is just as insane as I knew it would be.  A violent, funny and novel premise (no pun intended.)" —John Landis

"Much like he did in the world of film, Tobe Hooper has brought a fascinating and twisted new vision to the world of horror fiction." – Rob Zombie

"It’s catnip for splatterpunk fans...a lecherous and barbarous good time."Daniel Kraus, Booklist

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic Grindhouse film in short novel form July 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
I just bought the book "Midnight Movie" by Tobe Hooper and Alan Goldsher and could not get enough! As a long time fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well as Hooper's other films such as "Eaten Alive" and "The Funhouse" I dove into this book expecting nothing less than blood splatter on the floor, grindhouse excitement. I was not let down! This book has everything that made the grindhouse films of the 60s and 70's legendary. Sex, Violence, and ZOMBIES! While I was disappointed that it was not a lengthier novel I would find it ridiculous for any horror fan not to be impressed by this book. It is a MUST have for all the horror movie geeks like myself, tobe hooper fans, or horror fiction fans in general. For a quick read at 315 pages - it packs a punch like you wouldn't believe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Usual...... May 13, 2012
By Jodhi
Format:Kindle Edition
I had this on my Amazon Kindle Wishlist but wasn't too sure about buying it so I was happy when I found a copy at my local library & got it out & was glad I did. The book while enjoyable was not something I could read again & again. I loved the story but the way it was written annoyed me. The first part was written in the view of people who "lived through" what happened & the middle was a mish-mash of blog entries, twitter posts, emails & news stories. The last part was written as the first was & it made it hard to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for horror fans September 12, 2011
By Jessica
Format:Paperback
I loved this book. I'm a big fan of the type of movie that this book is trying to recreate. The use of technology really shaped the story and made it feel like I was watching a movie filmed from multiple perspectives. It didn't feel forced and superfluous like some other novels I've read. Basically, if you're a fan of Tobe's movies, you'll probably enjoy this book. It's an easy read and moves quickly. Great for summer!
