Excellent recording - except for crickets,
By JN (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews

I purchased the CD hoping this would be what I had been looking for: a CD with ONLY the sound of falling rain. Well, that's "not exactly" what I received. Though the sound quality is exceptional, gradually you will hear more and more crickets toward the end of the CD. On a good sound system, you might even start looking around the house for the crickets as the recording quality is very good. In fact, I had to turn off my sound system more than once to confirm that the cricket sounds were indeed only from the CD. Also, towards the end of the track, you will hear faint bird sounds. If you're looking for a CD that realistically creates the "being there" effect of a forest during a rainstorm, this CD is for you as the sound quality is exceptional. However, if all you want is the sound of falling rain with no crickets/birds/etc. you may want to look elsewhere. Finally, there are no sounds of thunder - only rain falling with the muted background crickets.

A total ambient experience,

Since I was given this album two years, it has easily become my most listened to disc. Not only during those times of the day when you just need to gear down a bit and collect your thoughts, but at night when it's not uncommon for me to put it on when I go to bed and have it recycle all night long. It really helps me to fall asleep and stay asleep all night long. I like to imagine I'm bunked out for the night in the protective cover of my tent and as a gentle rainshower falls outside. The dynamics of the recording allow you to use your imagination for the ambient experience that you want.

Rain with crickets and birds,

As one reviewer said this rain CD has the sounds of crickets and birds towards the end. If you are looking for only the soothing sound of rain with no birds, crickets, thunder or other annoying things, I recommend "Sounds of the Earth: Rain in the Country". The "Rain in the Country" CD is a clear recording of a steady rainshower. It is so relaxing that I bought 3 copies of it just in case they ever stop selling it.

A wondrful experience of a midnight rainshower, I have played it every night since it arrived. The rain changes intensity enough to make you feel you are listening to it live, comfortable in your own bed. There are no really distracting sounds from the rainshower, like a bird or bug, just delightful rain for an hour. This CD is a delight and well worth the money.

I love this CD. My wife and I have kept it playing on repeat, every night, for the past 4 years. If you like rain, I definitely recommend it.
I spent a long time looking for a CD that was pure rain. Most have thunderclaps, and some even have frogs and honking geese. The closest that I found, a CD that actually featured a rainstorm without any animal noises, sounded tinny and unnatural. It was like listening to radio static. It wasn't relaxing. It was annoying. This Hawaii rain shower was a good compromise. It does have mild cricket noises and some bird chirps toward the end -- but they're subtle, and I think they help to trick my mind into thinking that I'm hearing rain rather than static coming from the speakers. I would also admit that this CD isn't optimal for repeat playing, because over the course of an hour the rain slows and ends softer than it began; but we've been using it happily for 4 years, and it's never kept me awake. I suppose I could have kept searching for the Holy Grail of pure rain CDs -- but as they say, "perfect is the enemy of good." I'd probably still be searching instead of enjoying this CD.

this CD is very relaxing. It transported me back to a night I spent in the wilds of Costa Rica on the banks of the Pacuare river. The constant rain, the dripping and the cicadas or crickets were all very peaceful. The first night this did the trick and I think I was asleep within 15 minutes. Last night, I decided to let my cats sleep with me (usually they are not allowed because of my sleep disorder ).. I set the CD on loop and fell asleep quickly. I was awoken to my cat jumping off and on the bed meowing and then running across the room. It took me a while to wake up and hear the bird sounds that were driving him so batty :)... Overall, the noises are so calming and peaceful that I would have to give this a 5. It is a testament to the recording that I didn't actually get to hear the birds before my cat pointed them out to me.

Really wanted to like this rain shower, but as hard as I tried, couldn't get into the white noise sounds. Crickets and bird noises were not a problem.

Very relaxing and calming soft rainshowers. Great for meditation and for going to sleep by. My wife purchased this CD in late 1999 and listend to everynight (365 days) before bed. This CD lasted for ten years! She was not able find a more relaxing or calming rainshowers like the ones found on this CD. Of course you all know that I was too subjected to listening to it every night (365 days a year for ten years) as well. I found it to be very relaxing so much so that I was out like a light and felt refreshed in the morning. I give this CD five stars! Or Ten thumbs up! Makes a great gift too!

Found this at a local library around 20 years ago, bought a copy and after quite literally about 10,000 rotations it is finally making some clicking noises towards the end and waking me up. I didn't think you could wear-out a cd there being no surface contact with the lasar and all, but the noise is there nonetheless so I guess you can. I'm sure I could probably sleep without this thing but at this point it is so ingrained into my subconsious that it is like audible crack. The delicate decrecendo of the rain over an hour-long period, balanced by the soft chirpings of birds and crickets will lull you into oblivion.
