Book Description

Never look back…

The Watchers, Book 1

After suffering years of abuse as the virtual prisoner of a drug lord, Robyn Andrews has had enough. A carefully planned escape is her only hope for survival. Her past nipping at her heels, she boards the first bus out of town and heads for Louisville, Kentucky.

Trigg is a Watcher with two missions in life. One, to hunt and eliminate Rogue vampires. Two, to be left alone. Yet he can’t bring himself to harden his heart against the petite woman who looks so lost standing in the rain. And when Robyn joins him in a battle against Rogues, the little spitfire shows the bravery of ten Watchers. She’s someone special, someone he needs in his dark life.

Someone he can never have. He’s vampire; she’s human. A future for them is impossible.

But the past has a way of catching up—and changing destinies with deadly speed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Backstory better than the actual story. December 25, 2008
Format:Kindle Edition
It started off really well - I was engrossed in Robyn's story and the abuse that her and her mother suffered at the hand of Jack. I personally think the whole novel should have followed this storyline - instead the story continued to switch from POV to POV and delve into the world of The Watchers, which quite frankly was no where near as exciting as Robyn and her mothers own personal history.

I didn't like Trigg (a Watcher). Between his constant simpering over how "beautiful" and "delicate" and "mouse-like" Robyn is, and how much "spunk" and "backbone" she has, I was pretty much ready to murder him. I didn't like the two of them as a couple. I wish Robyn hadn't encountered him at all. The way the two of them interacted was awkward - I couldn't accept him caring about her so quickly, or him telling her who he was when he had known her for less than a day. The only time they ever really worked was in the bedroom.

I reckon this novel would have been much better if the author concentrated on Robyn and her mothers story. Their lives before and with Jack and Robyn's escape - much more exciting. Overall it was a book that could have been great, but just went down all the wrong roads.

In the book Midnight Reborn, Robyn Andrews is a young girl with a single mom watching out for her. Her life is a struggle on some levels, but that is nothing compared to what happens when her mom hooks up with Jake Carter. Then both of their lives take a turn for the worse. The two women are transported into a living hell of extreme physical and emotion abuse.

Ms. McEntire's portrayal of these particular scenes is gut wrenching. It was written so well that I actually had to put the book down and have a moment of tears for what the story of these two women represents. It is important that the reader make it through this piece because it really lays the foundation for what Robyn goes through and the young woman she becomes.

Just when Robyn thinks there is no hope, she gets a break and makes her escape from Texas to Kentucky. She may have escaped one danger, but lands in the lap of something potentially more deadly. She takes up with a group of Watchers who are actually vampires sworn to protect civilian vampires and humans from rogue vampires.

It is an excellent story about despair, newfound hope, personal discovery, and love, filled with a good amount of action. Even though parts of this story were difficult for me to read, I am glad that I did, and am truly looking forward to the next book in the Watchers series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, mysterious and oh so sexy. May 13, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition

After escaping years of abuse from Jack, the last thing Robyn was looking for was another man trying to control her, yet that is exactly what she got. Who wouldn't want to take care of a starving, visibly abused female like Robyn? Trigg only wanted to make her evening a little easier by purchasing her a real meal, but that one meal turned into a lifetime.

Your heart will immediately go out to Robyn in this story. I was a little concerned that the love story was about an eighteen year-old, because that seemed a little too young in my mind but it worked well since Robyn was forced to grow up fast due to the abuse she lived with. I also enjoyed the way her previous circumstances made her adapt to Trigg and the other Watchers' way of life easily.

Trigg, like many men in these types of novels, is your typical Alpha male. He would have to be in order to be a Watcher for his kind. Only around Robyn can he allow himself to show his softer side. So between Robyn's need for protection, and his need to loosen up, they come together wonderfully.

The plot line was phenomenal. The way everything tied in together was perfect. The story was constantly moving forward and kept me turning page after page. It's one of those books where you say to yourself this is the last chapter I'll read, but yet you keep going until you realize you've read the entire book. It also sets you up perfectly for the next book in the series which I cannot wait to read.

This was a great love story between two well-deserving characters that you definitely do not want to miss. I highly recommend Midnight Reborn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good start to a promising series! April 1, 2014
By KJ
Format:Kindle Edition
I was hooked from the very beginning of this story. The character of Robyn is a fantastic underdog. You want her to overcome all of the pain she's gone through in her young 18 years. The beginning of this story is an intense journey for Robyn, as well as the reader. As the story goes on, it seems to become a bit predictable.

I personally wasn't a fan of Trigg as a character. I think I would have liked a little more backstory on him, in hopes of having more of a connection with him. I love the premise behind the Watchers, and am thrilled to see there are so many more Watchers books out these. I enjoyed the brief glimpses we had of the other Watchers, and I think I will love the following books!
