From Library Journal

In the second volume in Gideon's vampire trilogy, young and innocent Nicole Radouix suddenly learns of her vampire heritage and escapes to Paris to try to forget, and deny, what she is. However, her love for Marchand forces her to deal with her true nature and eventually come to a decision about their relationship. Dark and compelling, Gideon's (Midnight Kiss, Zebra Bks., 1994) novel will appeal to those who enjoy the vampire novels of Anne Rice and Lori Herter. [Gideon lives in Portage, Michigan.]

Review

The daughter of a mortal mother and a vampire father, Nicole Radouix has no idea where her special powers come from until she accidentally discovers her father one night having a midnight snack. Stunned, appalled, frightened and confused, Nicole runs away with the help of a friend. While in post-revolutionary Paris, Nicole meets the enigmatic Marchand La Valois. Amidst the political intrigue of a city in conflict with itself, Nicole and Marchand must deal with the threat of not only an underground political faction that has Marchand in it's grip, but the dark underworld of the vampires that would destroy Nicole, and her father, for sins long past. Fighting their attraction for each other is a battle soon lost, however, as Nicole and Marchand are willing to risk his mortality in their desire to be together. Nicole must come to terms with her immortality as well, and the mysterious powers she possess over people, objects and herself. Unwilling to live without each other, and yet frightened for their very existence and that of their loved ones, Nicole and Marchand overcome the greatest of obstacles in both the mortal and immortal worlds from which they both will come. Not explicitly gory or graphic, this fascinating romance offers the reader only the basic descriptions of the desire and experience of the vampire world's need for blood. The squeamish need not be worried, only those with a limited imagination need not apply!Ms. Gideon conjures up a fast-paced, surprisingly believable look into a dark and mysterious world where only the greatest of loves can flourish! Once you get a taste of this new genre, you'll hunger for more! Ms. Gideon is the perfect choice to guide the reader through this fascinating new world of passion and desires! Ms. Gideon once again demonstrates her remarkable ability to entertain the reader in any chosen field of the imagination!Diane Potwin -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 4.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Temptation, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Midnight Temptation (Paperback)
Louis and Arabella are now living in a Chateau outside of Grez. Nicole the daughter conceived during the short time that Louis had the chance to become human once again, is now coming of age. She is also having very weird and scary cravings and feelings she doesn't quite understand. She questions why she has so little freedom and isn't even allowed to visit Paris like other girls her age. Nicole doesn't understand her mothers' overprotectiveness. Nicole follows her father on one of his short evening jaunts, in order to speak to him about this situation and to seek his help. Nicole isn't prepared for what she sees. At first she thinks her father is cheating on her mother then she sees the blood running down the girls neck. That's when for the first time she finds out that her father is a vampire. Nicole is so distressed she flees him back to the arms of her mother. Nicole feels betrayed that parents have been keeping this from her for all these years that in the morning she leaves. Nicole gets a ride from Grez to Paris with an aspiring artist named Camille. Once in Paris Nicole's bag containing all her money, jewels and everything she brought with her is stolen. She is left with nothing and nowhere to go. After spending the night outside, being shooed off of doorsteps, and being mistaken for a prostitute, Nicole remembers Camille's offer of help if she ever needs it. Nicole then goes to Camille's where she meets Marchand La Valois who tells her Camille has been killed. Marchand takes pity on Nicole and takes her in, in return Nicole is to keep the house clean and such. Eventually Nicole and Marchand become closer. Unfortunately some of Nicole starts having weird feelings and almost takes Marchands blood. Bianca and Gerard show up and convince Nicole to stay with them by saying they are old friends of her fathers. They also let her know they are the same as her and her father and promise to teach her about her nature. They of course are trying to get even with her father, and to teach her to be as ruthless as they are. Luckily Nicole finds out their true motives, but not before she and all people that she cares about are put into danger. The story has the usual necessities for any good book, intrigue, danger, betrayal and romance. At the end of the book I couldn't wait to read the third to the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Vampire Story, December 1, 2001

Growing up can be hell and Nicole has it worse than most people. Not only does she discover that her father is a vampire, but genetics have seem to transfered his unholy cravings to her as well. Afraid and confused, Nicole runs away to Paris. She isn't inside the city an hour before her money is stolen and she is left penniless.
Fortunately, she is taken in by a group of idealistic bohemiens. One of them, Marchand, she is powerfully attracted to. Marchand is not without complications himself. Wanted for deserting the army of an unjust king, Marchand takes whatever work he can find to make sure his irresponsible friends have food on the table. Their relationship is complicated by the changes that are being wraught in Nicole.
To make matters worse, Nicole finds herself the apprentice of the evil vampire duo, Gerard and Bianca. Enemies of her father, they try to find out where her parents are hiding while slowly corrupting Nicole. It becomes a true test of character when Bianca and Gerard decide to make Marchand her first meal...
This is an awsome story. A cut above most vampire romances. Nicole and Marchand's love is pushed to the breaking point many times. It is a very interesting read. Being out of print, the books are hard to find at a reasonable price, but they are well worth the effort of tracking down.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional book from an exceptional author, August 3, 2000

This review is from: Midnight Temptation (Paperback)
The daughter of a vampire and a human, Nicole Radioux has always known that she is special. She can communicate with animals, run faster than most people, and can manipulate objects, and sometimes people. She discovers her father's 'secret' one night while following him and discovers him having a midnight snack. Stunned and confused beyond reason, she flees her home with the help of an artist friend and travels to Paris. Her first night destroys her illusion of beautiful Paris, and she finds herself left without money, clothing and shelter. It is around this time that she makes the acquaintance of mysterious Marchand LaValois. While falling in love with Marchand and trying to deal with her own problems, she becomes drawn into Marchand's incessant problem with a shady political group. Unfortunately, in seeking guidance, she meets old time 'friends' of her father who are not quite who they seem to be. Her problems escalate as she tries to solve all her problems revolving around her father, his so-called friens, and Marchand's faction. This is a story of a girl who has the image of her father shattered and seeks solitude in an attempt to self-discovery. She falls desperately in love and when everything is said and done, we meet a young woman in charge of her destiny and a daughter any parent would be proud of. I loved Midnight Temptation and extremely glad to have discovered Nancy Gideon.Fans of Nancy Gideon and vampire romances will be pleased and surely left thirsting for more.
