In the second volume in Gideon's vampire trilogy, young and innocent Nicole Radouix suddenly learns of her vampire heritage and escapes to Paris to try to forget, and deny, what she is. However, her love for Marchand forces her to deal with her true nature and eventually come to a decision about their relationship. Dark and compelling, Gideon's (Midnight Kiss, Zebra Bks., 1994) novel will appeal to those who enjoy the vampire novels of Anne Rice and Lori Herter. [Gideon lives in Portage, Michigan.]

Review
The daughter of a mortal mother and a vampire father, Nicole Radouix has no idea where her special powers come from until she accidentally discovers her father one night having a midnight snack. Stunned, appalled, frightened and confused, Nicole runs away with the help of a friend. While in post-revolutionary Paris, Nicole meets the enigmatic Marchand La Valois. Amidst the political intrigue of a city in conflict with itself, Nicole and Marchand must deal with the threat of not only an underground political faction that has Marchand in it's grip, but the dark underworld of the vampires that would destroy Nicole, and her father, for sins long past. Fighting their attraction for each other is a battle soon lost, however, as Nicole and Marchand are willing to risk his mortality in their desire to be together. Nicole must come to terms with her immortality as well, and the mysterious powers she possess over people, objects and herself. Unwilling to live without each other, and yet frightened for their very existence and that of their loved ones, Nicole and Marchand overcome the greatest of obstacles in both the mortal and immortal worlds from which they both will come. Not explicitly gory or graphic, this fascinating romance offers the reader only the basic descriptions of the desire and experience of the vampire world's need for blood. The squeamish need not be worried, only those with a limited imagination need not apply!Ms. Gideon conjures up a fast-paced, surprisingly believable look into a dark and mysterious world where only the greatest of loves can flourish! Once you get a taste of this new genre, you'll hunger for more! Ms. Gideon is the perfect choice to guide the reader through this fascinating new world of passion and desires! Ms. Gideon once again demonstrates her remarkable ability to entertain the reader in any chosen field of the imagination!Diane Potwin --
