Adorable story and beautiful illustration,
By Il Moro di Venezia (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Midnight Unicorn (Hardcover)
How could anyone NOT like a book about a little girl, her faithful dog, and a unicorn statue that comes to life. Neil Reed's story - and particularly his illustrations - are captivating. I do love the special touch about the little girl's dog. Even though she has made this fantastic unicorn her friend, she does not lose affection for or neglect her loving dog. It's wonderful to show how chidren do not have to choose between friends or favourites; these things can co-exist and compliment one another. This story calls to mind "The Dancing Tiger" where imagination and wonder create a reality all their own. And the moral in oth of them is very sweet. So if you enjoy either one of these books...you'll want to get the other one, too.

Beautiful Illustrations,

This is a beautiful book, the illustrations are large and have a shiny "ink" on parts of them that really make it special. This book caught the eye of my 4 year old son at the library and he loves the imaginative story. (I know that usually it's the girls who are interested in unicorns, but he doesn't know that.) We've been reading it over and over, so now I'm buying the book. I'll buy another one the next time I need a present one of his friends, too.

I bought this for my 5 year old granddaughter for Christmas and let me tell you, it is impressive! I was so surprised at how big the book was, then was really really impressed after reading it. It is fabulously written and illustrated....a must read every night!

Great story with beautiful pictures,

I bought this story for my daughter for her fifth birthday, and I am so glad I did. She loves it, and the story (about a little girl who visits a stone statue of a unicorn that comes to life and flies with the girl all over the world) is creative and enjoyable for both my daughter and me (that is, I don't mind reading it to her). But the best part is the pictures, which are glorious, very detailed, and actually are textured. My daughter loves feeling the raised "raindrops" and the unicorn's mane. I really recommend this to parents of children 4 - 6, especially of kids who are dreamers and love horses and unicorns.

Is Millie Dreaming or Does She Really Fly with the Unicorn?,

When picking bedtime books, my grandchildren (and I) choose The Midnight Unicorn every time. The pictures are big, bold, and beautiful, with raised shiny highlights that grab the attention of kids and adults. When I ask my 5-year-old granddaughters if Millie's travels with the unicorn are real or if she dreams them, my little girls insist that the travels are real! A charming story, and a book that I highly recommend.

Stunningly Illustrated Book,

This book is gorgeous, and is a wonderful story for any horse/unicorn loving child. My daughter is 5, and has me read this book to her at least twice a week. She got this book last year for Christmas, and it is one of her favorites. The illustrations are outstanding. The story of a little girl and her Midnight Unicorn is timeless. Plus, the dog in it looks just like my old chocolate lab, so this story has a place in my heart for sure.

Delightful, charming, happy ending.... wholesome story.,

The artwork is beautiful, the story is a delight. My daughter got this for her 4th birthday and this has become a staple bedtime story. It's long enough to have substance, short enough that it doesn't drag. I can't recommend it enough.

My unicorn-obsessed daughter received this for her fourth birthday (unicorn-themed, of course). It's a great story with imagination and wonderful illustrations. There aren't many unicorn books out there to choose from so I was happy to find one that was worthy to become her favorite unicorn book.
