5.0 out of 5 stars Complete suprise, April 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
First heard this guy (I was a jazz novice) at an in-store listening booth and bought it since it was on sale.

Without a doubt it is the favorite cool jazz disc in my wife and my collection, with the exception of Kind of Blue.

I associate locations and weather when I hear music. This reminds me of driving through downtown San Francisco on a rainy Friday night. If you've ever done that, you'll understand.

Listen and enjoy the passing of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible CD, October 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
I thought CD's wouldn't wear out...Well, when it comes to this one, I found that untrue. Listening to "Regroovable" became an obsession, even though I completely love the rest of the album. I just had my favorite song. I'm on my second copy and still can't get enough. Botti is outstanding but is not as well known as you would expect. Once you are hooked on his sensual horn, you can't imagine life without him. He plays from his soul, and lets his horn speak for him. He epitomizes "cool" (jazz or otherwise...) Just buy the CD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars COOL, SMOOTH & SENSUOUS, February 19, 2001

BEZEREL L. QUINTO (makati, philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
I first saw Chris Botti in Sting's "Brand New Day Tour-Live At The Universal Amphitheater" DVD. He substituted the role which used to be played by Branford Marsalis, only this time in his cool, smooth & sensuous trumpet. I used to favor the saxophone as the better horn instrument as compared to the trumpet but Chris Botti made me appreciate the trumpet by the way he plays. "Midnight..." is my second Chris Botti CD (the first one being "Slowing Down The World". He has never failed me thus far.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of Mr. Botti, July 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
I have several of Chris Botti's CDs. This is the best, in my opinion. Magical playing by Chris, and wonderful vocals by Paul Buchanan and Jonatha Brooke. This CD has a lovely melancholy that washes over you like a soothing blanket.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Midnight Without You", November 26, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
This is one of Chris Botti's most remarkable recordings along with "To Love Again," "When I Fall In Love" and "A Thousand Kisses Deep." Mr. Botti is one of the finest jazz musicians America ever produced and he's not only a terrific trumpet player but also a talented composer as well. This recording showcases his creative musical sensibility not only for being an expert on trumpet but also his talent in composing beautiful melodies. On this CD, he composed all the delightful tunes for our listening pleasure. My friends and I will have the pleasure to be at his concert and watch him perform live with his special guests; Sting, Paula Cole, Gladys Knight, Jill Scott, Paul Buchanan, Renee Olstead and Burt Bacharach this coming Friday, December 2nd at the Wilshire Theatre.

You'll love listening to all the great tracks in this wonderful CD, which is a perfect companion for relaxation, for driving and background music for cocktail and dinner parties. To me, the most ear-catching tunes are "Regroovable," "When Rain Falls" and the title track "Midnight Without You" with Paul Buchanan presenting his vocal artistry.

Very highly recommended not only for smooth jazz lovers but also for every one who appreciates fine music and outstanding artists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Mood, February 27, 2005
By
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
Chris Botti's "Midnight Without You" is an elegant moody set that wears well since its 1997 release. "Regroovable" with its perky beat and Botti's insistently cheerful horn sliding over Shawn Pelton's drums is the most instantly accessible. "Until Now" also offers a similar midtempo setting, albeit a bit more in moody territory that offers a pretty Botti melody and keyboard atmospherics. The opener "The Steps of Positano" is dark & moody with a lovely melody. Jonatha Brooke's vocals on "Forgiven" also shimmer and interplay wonderfully with Botti's trumpet, "These are the chances we take, the reasons that we can't explain, follow your heart everyday & pray to be forgiven." "Midnight Without You" is a consistently satisfying set from this excellent master of the trumpet and mood. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful, sometimes groovin', always right, March 26, 2000
By
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
Botti is as gifted a composer as he is a trumpet player. As a composer, Botti reaches real, heartfelt depth. Botti's CDs, as a whole, have a moving sound that no other player can carry so consistently across albums. But several of his works are grooving and upbeat too. The occasional background guitars are vaguely reminiscint of U2's guitar work, and the piano is very well mixed with Botti's horn playing. I love ALL his CDs, and I'm glad I don't have to pick just one.

As a player, Botti is very clean and accurate, yet always heartfelt with truly artful phrasing. Never gimicky, always just right.

On a side note, the ladies always respond VERY well to all of Botti's music on a date. Slow dancing is a very easy sell with Botti's ballads playing. That alone says a lot about the affect Botti's music has, but Botti's music can have some real talented groove to it too. I hope this player can create 100 CDs. I'll own them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best music to unwind with after a stressful day, January 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Midnight Without You (Audio CD)
After listening to Caught and First Wish I purchased Midnight Without You. Botti never disappoints. I enjoy this CD as much as the other three I own. I love the Steps of Positano and When Rain Falls. I have 4 of his CDs now and I love them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nation-wide, October 15, 1999

I listened to this cd when I was first driving through a rainey night in Baltimore. It fit. I have also listened to this cd driving through the desert around Moab, Utah at sunset. It still fit. Its fit everywhere in between. I just hope he doesn't sell out with Sting.

This album is incredible. From the first song, it is clear that Chris Botti can take the listener to another world. It is like the trumpet is speaking. His smooth tone and relaxing songs help create a serene atmosphere that I have never heard before.
