Book Description

June 20, 2009 1901091376 978-1901091373
The majority of the pretty villages that make up Midsomer country are actually strewn over four counties - Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire. Here for the first time is a comprehensive guide to the gorgeous locations used in filming the series. From Aldbury to Windsor, this book, published in conjunction with the Midsomer Murders Society, surveys over one hundred of these picturesque locations, complete with filming anecdotes. However, it concentrates primarily on the historical aspects of each site, most of which are open to the public and worth a visit in their own right. The guide is fully indexed by county and episode, and covers everything from public houses to churches and stately homes. Midsomer Murders on Location is extensively illustrated and contains maps to assist the reader in planning their own visit. This book is a must for all Midsomer Murders enthusiasts as well as those interested in visiting some of England's finest countryside. Published in conjunction with The Midsomer Murders Society and Bentley Productions.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing October 29, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a HUGE fan of Midsomer Murders. I was expecting a book with color photos of English homes, pubs, gardens, and countryside as well as behind-the-scenes information about the television show. All of the photos and maps are in black and white and the photos are very small. I was so disappointed when I received the book and saw what it contained. I would not recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Middle Ground for Midsomer Locations June 28, 2010
Format:Paperback
As one reviewer notes, Midsomer Murders on Location contains only black and white photos of the locations, and the book is focused on text, as opposed to the photos. I suspect that including glossy color photos would have made the book prohibitively expensive. Also, the use of photos taken by the coauthors is completely understandable, since obtaining permissions from Bentley Productions for images of John Nettles and his co-stars clipped from the show probably would have been impossible or very expensive. The best way to use the book is as a rough guide before watching an episode of the program. This is especially interesting when you learn that the interior and exterior of a fictional building are in reality from two different buildings in two completely different villages! In the spirit of full disclosure, my real appreciation of this book was greatly enhanced by visiting some of the locations this summer. It's helpful for finding the locations and puts the location filming in context.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED MIDSOMER LOCATIONS!!!!! September 14, 2009
Format:Paperback
Loved to finally know where all these gorgeous locations in Midsomer Murders where. I wish there was less on the history and more tidbits about the actual Midsomer filmings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Midsomer Murders on Location January 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think the book supplements the online location sites I have found, but is not as extensive as I expected. To support identification of scenes in the shows, one can probably do better using the online photos. Still, the book is worth having for the historical information on many of the villages and buildings.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing December 26, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This sounded like a really interesting book, but proved to be far less interesting when recieved. There are very few images, one for each 'village', even when several locations in that village were used in the series. None of the images are in color. Really isn't worth the cost of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dry Read June 13, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has the information that you would need to find the locations, but the content reads like a monotone tour guide. I love the show but barely made it through the book.

Exploring Midsomer is much better visually and organized well.
