3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first!
The second part is way better than Another Man's wife. Even though it still left alot of stones unturned, I enjoyed it. You really don't need to read the first book to catch up with the second. I say save your money and just buy In the Midst of it all.

In the Midst of it All is the portrayal of two sisters whose lives seem perfect but with each passing moment they become more complicated. Asia Fenton has found a new relationship with Detective Johnny Johnson after her ex-fiancé broke her heart. However, the love she has for Johnny is overshadowed by her attraction to her new neighbor, Ray, and the chemistry she still has with her ex. Yani, Asia's sister, and her husband, Alex, have been through the storm and rain and seemed to have made it. However, Yani's ex-husband has come to dally in her marriage once again, but this time from the grave through his children from his second marriage. And In the Midst of it All, September 11th changes everything.

I read this book in one sitting. I was pleasantly surprised. With this novel being a sequel, I did not have the benefit of having read the first book. However reading it was not necessary. Ms. Cheekes does a very good job of giving a reader enough of the previous information to keep them up to date with what was currently going on. This book definitely stands by itself. I also liked the characters who were complex and real. Although as a reader one may be drawn to a character for personal reasons, I enjoyed that there were no evil villains or hapless innocent victims. These were grown men and women making choices that sometimes work and sometimes do not. And ladies and gentlemen that is life. The input on the September 11th tragedies add another dimension to the story especially with it being in recent history. In some ways it eclipsed that which came before in the story causing this reader to leave the plot and ponder on the events of that day. Nevertheless, Ms. Cheekes uses this tragic day in history to turn her story in some predictable ways and yet revealing some unpredictable circumstances. Ultimately reminding us that life is not always fair; we just need to thank God for letting us in the game.

I really enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Put it Down, Great Sequel..., May 25, 2006
This review is from: In the Midst of It All (Paperback)
"In the Midst of it All" this was an excellent sequel to "Another Man Wife" by Shonda Cheeks. This book had me so emotionally; it was as breathtaking as the first book. You can't read this book before reading the first book, because you will get lost in the storyline. Once I start reading this book I couldn't put it down. I was touched by the love story between Alex and Yani, their lives was filled with unconditionally love, heartbeat, misunderstandings and tragedy, but their love withstood it all....Asia was physically with Johnny, but mentally she was with her ex, even though he hurt her in the past...Asia story lines teaches you to follow your heart and not your mind. Alex is every woman dream man, he is handsome, rich, has an successful career, he's forgivable, acceptable, a great father, an friend, and he loves and respected his wife despite some of her choices in life...

This book was refreshing for a sequel with most of the characters from the first book with some new characters throw in, but it didn't take away from the story....Mrs. Cheeks, I look forward to reading many more of your books in the future

5.0 out of 5 stars Questions, Dilemna, Challenges..., October 11, 2006
This review is from: In the Midst of It All (Paperback)
This was an excellent read. Superb writing skills and a story line which kept your interest. This is the sequel to "Another Man's Wife" which was outstanding also. I have recommended both books to my friends for a group therapy discussion. In life we never know what lies ahead however if we can continue to keep our heads up to the sky "In the Midst of it all" that itself is a blessing....Can't wait for her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent follow-up!!!, June 10, 2006
This review is from: In the Midst of It All (Paperback)
I read the first book a while back but could not forget the love story between Yani and Alex. They share a love that many search for but never find. The sequel is just as heart-warming, gut wrenching and entertaining as the first. Through Alex and Yani you find that love is all that matters and the stuff in between builds up the love not tear it down. And with Asia, playing it safe just because the person is seen as a good catch means nothing to heart. The heart wants what the heart wants it is up to the owner of the heart to decide if it is worth it. I highly recommend the book for a good read. You will not put it down!

This book was an OUTSTANDING follow-up to Another Man's Wife. I could not put the book down. The characters were creatively and carefully intertwined that keeps you wanting to read on. The author definitely hit the ball out of the ballpark on this one! This book is going to be several Christmas gifts for friends. I can't wait until the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Trouble Don't Last Always, January 3, 2006

This review is from: In the Midst of It All (Paperback)
IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL by Shonda Cheekes is the sequel to Another Man's Wife. We are reunited with Yani and Alex Chance who have weathered many storms during the short time they have been married. Marriage is hard work and Alex and Yani realize that when they encounter their biggest obstacle yet. When Jarrin, Yani's ex-husband's second family appears in New York wanting to connect with Yani and her children, the idea doesn't sit too well with her. After all, for five years of her life , Yani was in a deep depression when Jarrin disappeared and she had no clue where he was. When he in fact was living with his other family. Although the hurt was still fresh, she decided to give it a go and let the children get to know each other, after all they were half siblings. After the meeting, tragedy strikes and a decision has to be made that may tear Yani and Alex apart for good. Is their love strong enough to pass this latest test?

Asia Fenton, is Yani's fiesty younger sister, who has found happiness in the arms of Detective Johnny Johnson. She didn't think she would ever get over the heartbreak of her ex-fiance who forgot to tell her about his pregnant girlfriend. But she did find love with Johnny and their relationship is moving at a fast pace, so fast that wedding bells are in the not so distant future. Asia isn't sure if she is ready to make that type of commitment yet, and with Johnny's busy schedule, the reappearance of her ex-fiance, and the fine neighbor who just moved in her building, Asia is in a state of total confusion. She has to search deep inside of her heart to make the decision that is in her best interest.

IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL is a poignant novel that deals with matters of the heart. The writing is strong and the characters are well developed and real. They each have to get over past hurts in order to move forward. Although you may not have dealt with the same type of issues as Yani and Asia, you will still be able to relate to letting go of the past in an effort to move on to the future. This novel is a fast-paced read that touches every emotion imaginable and deals with forgiveness, heartbreak, hope and love. If you are eager to know what happened to Yani, Alex and Asia pick up IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL, you won't be disappointed.

This book was a wonderful follow up from "Another Man's Wife". I feel in love those characters as soon as I open the book and they didn't let me down in this sequel. Yani, was her usual caring self but she had a few issues with kepting her ex's son. I loved Alex's character always caring for his wife and family. But he too had became a little selfish. Asia's character did most of the talking in this book and she had quite a bit of man problems. But before it was too late she did marry her soulmate. Writing 9/11 into the story line was well thought and even made me remember how tragic that event was. Shonda Cheeks is an excellent writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trials and Tribulations may come, but at the end of the rainbow...., January 20, 2006
This review is from: In the Midst of It All (Paperback)
'In The Midst Of It All' is an excellent read! Ms. Cheekes' did her thang on this sequel! The original story was very entertaining and she wrapped the second part up in a classic style.

Yani and Asia are both blessed with second chances of love with good men that worship the ground that they walk on, but because of the drama from their pasts, they both are fighting their demons from a love they need to loosed from. Their futures will be trimmed with troubles, but the sun will continue to shine for each of them if they are yet strong enough to reach for the sky.

Don't miss the continuing saga that evolves around their lives. You won't be disappointed! Full of love, hope, dreams, a tad of heartbreak, uncertainty, tragedy, but thus are the "Days of our Lives."
