Customer Questions & Answers

The crate is very sturdy, plush and easy to set up and fold down.

I can see that it would not be ideal as a training crate for a puppy, but that should be pretty obvious as it is a soft crate.

The dogs are zipped into their crates every night, and whenever we leave them alone in the house.

This crate was super easy to set up and has many practical features. It's light, easy to move from room to room and isn't as ugly as most plastic crates!

One suggestion if you buy this item: Make sure you zip up the flap so that both zippers meet at the top. I made the mistake of zipping at the bottom and Peter was able to work his way through the small gap and escape!

The soft crate is wonderful for my 7 year old Golden Retriever. I can see that it would not be ideal as a training crate for a puppy, but that should be pretty obvious as it is a soft crate. Set up is very simple, size is perfect and it is very attractive to have open in our home. Well worth the price.

We purchased this portable dog crate to take to the lakehouse, so our puppy would have a crate at the lake. She absolutely loves her new "house." It is so light and portable, and folds up and fits flat in the trunk of the car. I highly recc. this product to anyone looking for a portable crate.

I bought one of these soft crates for our little Maltese for traveling. Although she is a quiet little pup, she doesn't like us to leave her. It didn't take her too long to figure out how to open this crate where the zipper stops. We foiled her attempts to get out by putting a small pad lock on (2 ) zipper pulls put together. She soon got out again by just clawing at the zipper. This seems a very heavy duty crate, but it takes her less than one minute to work her way out. She likes laying in it, but she won't be kept in. To my disappointment, we ended up replacing it with one of those non collapsible plastic crates for traveling.

The kennel is just what I expected. The dog likes it, he can have a den yet see out. It's portable, doesn't overheat inside. They are large, so don't feel you have to buy the next size up to be safe. It's plenty spacious.

Once I figured out how to set-up and take down this crate, I was pleased w/the purchase. Pay attention when you unfold it ... that will help you figure out how to get it back to the correct position for easy stowing and carrying.

Caution: I suspect a very ornery pup could most likely roll the crate over, but our labradoodle puppy has been just fine in it. Also, if you have a chewer, this might not be a good option (unless you use the bitter apple stuff maybe?)

Overall -- I was looking for a light weight, easy to use crate option for traveling. This fits the bill quite nicely. We don't crate the pup in this while traveling, but we use it as her "room" when we are staying in hotels or at others' homes.

Pros:
Light weight to carry
Seems sturdy *We've only had it two months, so I can't speak to the long term durability of the item.

Cons:
Insert that goes in the bottom is plywood
(Hard plastic would have been better for cleaning) Note: There is a fuzzy, washable cover that goes over the insert

I absolutely LOVE this crate. I drive a Honda Civic coupe and it is difficult to get a crate to hold my 25# cocker in the backseat. This crate is so easy to set up that I can open it IN THE BACK SEAT and then secure it with the kennel restraints that I also purchased from Amazon. I really like both products because I know my dog is protected. I have 2 other crates and 1 other soft-side crate, and this is by far my favorite. It is also light weight, folds up small, and is easy to carry.

Note - please don't get this crate for your dog if any of these conditions apply:

1. You've never crated your dog before
2. Your dog has a history of throwing a fit if you leave it alone, or any other signs of separation anxiety
3. Your dog tries to be an escape artist (for example, does it try to scratch through a door to get to what it wants?)
4. Your dog chews on the couch or your shoes when it's bored

If any of these apply, you're likely setting yourself up for disappointment. This crate simply isn't made for your dog, instead you'll need a wire crate, or the type of hard-plastic-and-wire pet crate that's airline approved.

My shelties have always been crate-trained, are pretty well-mannered and are just fine being left alone, and they only chew on appropriate dog toys that I give them (I can't take any credit for them being well-behaved, they were already like this when I adopted them). If your dog is the same, this Midwest Canine Camper crate should be a very nice option for you.

Okay, on to my review:
We bought two of these in the 31x22" size for our shelties (27 lbs and 30 lbs) as we were about to take a car trip with our dogs for the first time. We like them so much we got rid of our wire and plastic crates and now use these "travel crates" as our everyday crates. So far it's been 3 months (UPDATE, now 4 years), and the zippers still work great, and the stitching is all sound. Our dogs like to lean against the mesh windows when they lie down, but the mesh and stitching are all quality stuff. I'll update should longevity issues arise... until then, you can safely assume our Midwest crates are doing just dandy. =) The dogs are zipped into their crates every night, and whenever we leave them alone in the house.
