***Video Review - I wish Amazon would let me upload a higher quality video, but it won't***

I have 4 female rats at the moment and this has been the best investment for them and me. I've had this cage for about 9 months. It is absolutely the best cage I have ever owned. Even small rats will be fine in this cage. Mine are all medium sized. Putting this thing together took a while, but it was not hard, just requires some patience. Yes it's expensive, but well worth the price if you ware going to continue to have more pets use it. I foresee having many generations of rats use this cage.

I like other reviewers purchased mine from somewhere other than Amazon because their price was about $100 more than everywhere else. I would have gladly purchased it from Amazon if it was a more reasonable price.

Pros:

1. Solid construction, built to last years!

2. Easy to clean, removable trays. I use a very mild cleaning solution that is natural to wash the cage itself monthly. I maintain the trays as clean as i can without taking them out until they should be hand washed. I take them out and wash the them usually every 4-5 days or so.

3. Excellent wide swinging doors. The doors open all the way so that you can remove the trays for cleaning. My rats LOVE to climb on the doors when they are open. I'll open all the doors so that they can climb around and get some exercise.

4. Perfect height/size: this cage is a great size (yes its big). I love that they have so much room to do what they want in it. You can hang all kinds of hammocks and/or toys from the tray supports. I have a huge wheel that my rats love to use that fits wonderfully inside the first level. at any given time they have 1-4 hammocks/beds or accessories in their cage.

We are really happy with this cage. We purchased it for our two Chinchillas. I have had them for 7 years now and I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on cages. This cage seems really sturdy and I like the different levels and space it provides them. I also like that you can cut off access between the top and bottom since my chins do not get along. We made a small modification to this cage because the pans are so shallow. We went to our local hardware store and had them cut Plexiglass panels for us to fit in the walls and front of the cage. They are six inches tall to create deep walls for the cage. We secured it with bolts and a washer and used a drummel tool to make sure there were no sharp edges. It looks great and i couldn't be happier.

The cage is well worth the money you'll pay for it ANYWHERE. ELSE. ON. THE. INTERNET. BUT. HERE.

Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to charge over $100.00 more than the nearest competitor. I would have NO idea why.

So I purchased mine elsewhere, despite being a looooong time Prime customer.

The cage itself is perfect for rats (Or, I assume, Chinchillas, Degus, Gerbils, etc.). The Ferret Nation was what many of us who like to spoil our rats used, but the wire spacing was a full inch, and only larger rats, or male rats could usually be housed safely in them.

The Critter Nation is nearly identical to the FN, however, the wire spacing is 1/2 inch, and the wires themselves run horizontally, PERFECT for climbing ratties.

SUPER easy to put together, very spacious (be warned, these cages are MASSIVE), with plenty of adjustable shelf locations, and room for toys, hammocks, and goodies.

The manufacturer is exceptional, with a no questions asked one year warranty on all parts included with, in, or on the cage.

I can't recommend the cage highly enough. Amazon I'm a little disappointed in.

I recently purchased this same cage for my chinchilla from Petsmart. I've NEVER had any issues with my chinchilla and he's very healthy. Within 8 hours my chinchilla broke his leg on the ramps. His leg got caught between the wiring on the ramps. He is now in cast for a month+ because of this. The cage came with fleece covers but they are identified in the booklet what each is for and in the pictures on here the ramps are not covered. I am just advising anyone that is wanting to buy this cage to be very CAUTIOUS! I did so much research before buying my chinchilla a new cage because he had his starter cage for a couple years, I wanted to make sure I got the safest and best fit cage for him. After I took him to the vet, she told me chinchilla should NEVER have ramps with wired spaces like this one does. Even though it comes with fleece covers, the fleece WILL stretch so please just consider replacing the ramps if you purchase this cage. I am replacing them with solid ramps now as he recovers. Please be cautious! Other than the ramps, the vet tells me this is one of the best cages for chinchillas!

This is the fourth cage I bought for our rats and we are very pleased with it.

The first cage we got was the Rat Habitat from PetSmart. Super Pet Habitat Defined Rat Habitat Mostly everything on the Rat Habitat is plastic and the parts (wires, clips and shelves) does not seem to fasten properly or hold up very well. This also made it hard to clean. One of the clips that holds the wire to the bottom broke after a couple of weeks.

The second cage we bought was a one-story all metal cage from PetSmart which is nice and easy to clean, but way to small for our two furry friends. We still use it from time to time if we want to move the rats to a different floor for a few hours.

I did buy the MidWest Ferret Nation (again from PetSmart), but returned it because it looked like the distance between the wires were too wide to hold the rats. Midwest 142 Ferret Nation Double-Level Ferret Cage with Ramps
I liked the design though, it is massive and seems to be really good quality so after some research I found Critter Nation which is basically the same cage but with less distance between the wires.

The cage itself is metal, huge, and very heavy. It was very easy to put together. We were planning on having the cage in the family room, but due to the size we decided to put it in the guest room and move it to the family room during the day. It has wheels and rolls easily so this is no problem.

The pans are plastic and too shallow for any bedding. We fixed that by inserting a big plastic box with bedding on the bottom floor.
