5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Midwest Fruit and Vegetable Book: Indiana (Paperback)
I first got this book from the library and loved it so much that I bought it. This book has every possible vegetable, fruit, herb and berry you can grow in the midwest. It gives info on when and how to grow each plant i.e. Tomatoes, Corn, Peaches, Apples, Oregano, Parsley etc. It also tells you how to rotate your crops every year. I knew nothing about how to garden when my husband and I first started gardening a few years ago and this was the book that got us started. Now a few years later with some experience behind us now this book is still helpful. I would recomend anyone wanting to start a garden or an experienced gardener wanting to improve their gardening skills to buy this book it has been one of the best purchases I have every made.

One tip though, look carefully at the title of the book, there is a specific book for each state in the midwest. I live in Missouri and bought the book for Indiana, the only difference that I saw was the amount of water that state roughly gets each season. It's just one page so I didn't see a need to return the book and get another one, but if I could do it again I would look more carefully at the title of the book and make sure that I got one for the state that I live in. Other than that I love the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Local Reference, March 25, 2009
This review is from: The Midwest Fruit and Vegetable Book: Indiana (Paperback)
I've borrowed this book from the library twice now and I need to just buy it! It's a wonderful resource for local growing conditions and how to work with them to produce a bountiful garden. I particularly appreciate the individual vegetable entries - I learned a great deal about not only each vegetable I wanted to grow, but also about some of the available varieties. I used this book to plan out where things would go in my garden, what my planting schedule would be, and what varieties I might consider. This is my first year gardening in Indiana, so this book was indispensable! I only wish it had more information on organic approaches to gardening.
