Damaged upon Delivery, March 25, 2007
Crate is very light weight and attractive, but wasn't packed well for shipping. When the box arrived it was open and damaged and some of the faux wicker was damaged. I'm sure we could have returned it, but didn't want the hassle. Overall we are pleased, but in retrospect we would have returned it for an undamaged product.

Great crate for home decor, February 2, 2009
I got this crate knowing that it likely would not be the dark brown color. So I did some research and found that walmart sells a spray paint called Krylon Fusion. Comes in over 30 colors and at least 4 finishes. You also need to buy some paint thinner if you dont have any on hand, as the Krylon requires you to quickly wipe over the new plastic with some thinner. So anyhow, the original light resin color isnt bad. it isnt the rich brown, but it isnt bad. Mine didnt smell either...until I painted it! That odor will be gone by tomorrow though, so I am not letting my puppy sleep there until it subsides. And she is not a chewer of her kennels, but if your dog chews, you probably dont want this crate till she stops! But anyhow, you can paint this crate before you put it together with this special Krylon, which bonds to plastic and resin and such. I chose a sparkle dark brown...it has little gold flecks in it and that gives a texture to the finish, and now it matches my chocolate trim and doors in my home. But like I said, it comes in over 30 colors, so you can paint the thing any color you like if you dont want the color that it comes in, so long as you use the Krylon Fusion. So dont worry about the color. that Krylon is dry in 15 minutes, but give it an hour before you put it together so you dont damage the finish while putting it together. In fact, I also needed to use the claw end of a hammer to pry open the hooks on the top a little, so they would fit in properly. You may want to do that prying first, before you paint it. I am a small woman, and had no help, and it was very easy to put together once I pried the little top hooks just a bit. But other than that, I am tickled pink about the crate. it looks good, its nicely vented, the small is a great size as a permanent den for my chihuahua, with the nicely fitted bed I ordered .for it. I think you will love it. but just know that this is not a crate for transporting. its not designed that way. its a stylish den for one spot in your home. you can slide it here and there when you re-arrange the room or decide you want the animal in a different location, but this is not a carrier.

Don't understand the other reviews, May 10, 2008
Maybe there was a redesign? Maybe some people never go to Ikea? Anyway, I had no problem putting it together - everything fit exactly as shown in the instructions. Ours replaced an endtable in the living room and looks fine in the corner. I too, noticed no smell. Yes, the wicker has a polyethylene (plastic) look/feel, but it still looks remarkably better than the small plastic kennel that sat in the living room before this purchase.
