I bought some Shamwows (well over a year ago) as soon as they were available in stores. The small blue ones in those packs are virtually useless. I wanted to get more of the gold ones which are larger and heavier, and chose these from Amazon. The said "original" and "Made in Germany" so I figured they would be at least as good and maybe better and I liked the (apparently) dark orange color because I could now have a set for clean clean-ups and have the old set for dirty clean-ups, and be able by color to distinguish the difference. BUT, these are actually the SAME gold color as the larger/thicker gold Shamwows. They do feel as though they may be a bit thicker than the Shamwows. I'm going to cut these in half as I did with the Shamwows because I find the 1/2 size to be more convenient and easier to work with when the "towel" is FULL of a liquid (weight-wise and dripping-wise). NOTE: the packaging (from these and from the Shamwows) say not to use fabric softener and not to dry them in a clothes dryer. I think that using fabric softener may lessen their absorbency a little, but mine get washed in a mixed load so I may never know. I have found no reason not to dry them in a dryer if you use one of the cooler/gentler cycles (like Knits/Gentle on my dryer) which I used instinctively from the beginning (drying them with my husbands T=Shirts, socks, and underwear, all of which are knits). If you don't know what to buy, I'd suggest these especially because they are eligible for FREE shipping from AMAZON, and the package only contains the more usable thickness and weight of "towel".

it works best when damp, never use bone dry as it will just push water around and absorb nothing

but once damp, it prob holds 10-15x times its weight in liquid

I first started using these cloths when I was in Europe in 1990 and realized I could not get along without them once I had used them. They make great dish cloths, I cut a large Shammy up into four pieces and they are just the right size for wiping up counter tops and other kitchen chores. I like them so much that I took one large towel with me to China last year and cut it up and that one towel lasted me the entire year while I was there. They work so much better than a sponge. They have to be wet to work well, so they don't work to do things like dry your pet. They work great to dry your car if you wet it and wring it out first. I was a little concerned because my supply had run out and I didn't know where to get more, but thankfully I found them on this site. This German Shammy is the best one; others that I have used were inferior to them.

Does not work as well as I expected, the Absorber Synthetic Chamois works much better. But the price for 3 of these is what made me purchase them. They work satisfactorily but do not dry as well as I wanted.

I have purchased these shammy's before and they work just as advertised. I had to only give 4 stars on the review because they are advertised as 20x27. This "new stock" are actually 20x23. Also they are labeled with "ShamWow". Yes, the same shamwow as seen on TV. For some reason they are now selling them as "The original shammy". My first order came as described. The second order I got the "shamwow" version. They both appear to be of the same quality. Just different packaging and labeling on the Shammy itself.

They sent me pieces of felt. I bought these shammys for my car.. because that's what most people use them for. But no.. the pieces of felt they sent me leaves thousands of scratches in the paints finish. Also a paper towel is more absorbant than these things.

Not only are these bigger than Shamwows, but they are thicker and of better quality. I plan to order another set! I use these for drying my large furry dog. They work great!

I should add that these are similar to Shamwows (not other car or swim shammies). They seem like the "same" product as Shamwows but much thicker and sturdier.

I had ordered this product to use as a shammy to dry my car. When I tried to use it for that purpose, it just smeared the water around. This product isn't really absorptive.

I was looking for a roll of shammy-cloth as my supply (from Spain) finally ran out after several years. I'd vaguely heard of the "TV shammy" and perhaps "the original German" version as well, but as I looked via Amazon at the choices, all things being equal this one seemed to fit the bill for me. I use it underneath a drying rack for dishes on my double sink in the kitchen, first suggested by a European friend. (In the US I think people associate shammy cloths with yard or car work mostly.) I cut off a piece at a time and it lasted weeks/months or until some coffee got spilled on it, whichever came first. But I never thought to wash it, just snipped the next piece.

This pack has large-cut pieces rather than a roll, but it's a perfect size for me, and I'd guess most needs. It's a bright, deep fruit-orange color, slightly "clashes" with my butter-yellow walls, but in a nice sort of way. :-) It's thicker than the roll version as well.

Crumbs and small spills brush or soak off easily. It does the job. And really nice: I'd read about washing shammy cloths (which I could see maybe for painting cleanup or some less domestic use) but never thought to try it. Now I have. With just a few small coffee stains (the only thing which doesn't seem to come right off with a damp towel) I threw one piece into the wash, normal cycle, and was pleasantly surprised to see it come out intact and *clean* - so now I again have two clean surfaces, and can flip it over if the top gets a little spotty and then clean again. Or replace.

So, in sum: this is strong, large-cut, absorbent, washable, and orange-orange. Arrived quickly and nicely packed in a box. All good.

This is the thick, high quality, made in Germany stuff. Great quality! Did I say that already? We love them so much we give them away to friends who comment on them. Don't use paper towels, this is way better and eco-friendly. Highly Recommended!
