5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Punk Album
I am a punk rocker at heart, and will be to the day I die. I have many friends, however, who never immersed themselves in this subculture the way I did, and so don't always understand what I see in such simplistic music with abrasive vocals, and, often, sloppy production. This CD explains all this. This CD has absolutly everything a punk rock CD should have...

2.0 out of 5 stars Blah
Bought this album based on the strong showing on Rock Against Bush II. Too bad I cannot return it and get something else.

The music is good enough, but the vocals are weak and completely masked by bad mixing. Sad, I like to hear what they are saying...

Doubtful this will get much more play, after the 3 listens it has already gotten. If you want...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Punk Album, August 21, 2005

I am a punk rocker at heart, and will be to the day I die. I have many friends, however, who never immersed themselves in this subculture the way I did, and so don't always understand what I see in such simplistic music with abrasive vocals, and, often, sloppy production. This CD explains all this. This CD has absolutly everything a punk rock CD should have. Sing-along choruses, blistring drum beats, witty song titles, and amazing socially concious lyrics. The people who complain about being unable to understand what Dillinger Four is singing about would do well to open up that little booklet that came with the CD and read the lyrics. Dillinger Four is a band that suckers you in with the classic punk abrasiveness, and then hits you with intelligent lyrics that put most poets and writers to shame. If only all social critics were as astute and honest with their assesments of what it's like to be an American today, we might have a smarter group of people running around. If you like punk rock, or you did one day, this is the record that will remind you what you saw in all this craziness in the first place.

As my fellow comrades have mentioned, this is what pop-punk should be. Every single song on the disc rocks...that's not too often of an occurance.

This band restored my faith in punk rock. Dillenger Four is one the best and hardest working bands around and this CD is their masterpiece. Every track on here is sing along catchy yet very poiniant and packing a big punch. The bass lines are booming, the drums like a marching army, and the guitars screaming like bombs falling from the sky. This album is full of very witty and political song writing that also speaks to you. If I had one CD to listen to for the rest of my life it would be this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars my favorite song is "honey, i shit the hot tub!", November 25, 1998

What can i say. This was the first D4 i've listened to, and it's one of the few albums i've gotten excited about in awhile. There's not a single dud on the whole album, and each song kicks the previous' butt. Insane song titles, too. punk rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Punk rock change my life...", January 30, 2007
This review is from: Midwestern Songs of the Americas (Audio CD)
The Minutemen said it best, but to be more accurate "D4 change my life!" I was fortunate enough to spend my late teens and on submersed in and around the Twin Cities punk scene. And Dillinger Four was as big a part of it as anything else. Not enough can be said about this album, every entry in the D4 catalog can stand on its own, but Midwestern Songs is probably the best "punk" album to come out in a long time (probably the best overall album of the late 90's any genre). Nothing can be beat D4 live, but this album is as close as it comes, and that says a lot.

d4 is "punk"...i guess. or the only punk band i've chanced to hear recently that has any clue about what they're doing and where they came from. love the samples on this one more than the others, though the "style wars" bite on "situationist comedy" is great..."shut your little trap inc." is a personal fav. if you really want to scrap with a minneapolite just mention that you think these guys are better than the replacements...like jesus jokes in bethleham.

4.0 out of 5 stars close to a masterpiece, April 22, 2005
This review is from: Midwestern Songs of the Americas (Audio CD)
I don't want to resort to meaningless cliches like every other person on the planet writing a music review, but this album rocks. No two songs sound the same, and the vocals are really well done. They are awesome live, and I can truly say this album helped shape the soundtrack of my youth. Oh, and Wisconsin sucks.

Yeah, I know this is a song off of Versus God, but I can't think of a better description of this album. The only thing that can possibly beat subjecting your friends and neighbors to repeated playings at high volume is to see D4 live. As a red-blooded Badger I didn't think that anything good ever came out of Minnesota, but I am sorely mistaken when it comes to bands like D4 and the Soviettes.

If you even think you like punk rock, and you don't own this album, then you need some serious help. Dillinger Four is, without a doubt, the greatest punk rock band to ever exist. They blend intelligent lyrics with catchy pop punk and can drink beer like no one else I know. Is this the best album of the 1990s? Umm...yeah.
