Be swept away by tempestuous passions!, February 7, 2011
This review is from: Midwinter Marriage (Hardcover)
The characters we met first in Star-Crossed Summer spring to vivid life again in Midwinter Marriage. Sir Guy Valmer, who has been cheated out of his heritage by several people, seeks Beth Tremoille, whose father remarried and left his estate away from his daughter. Or did he? There is enough sleight-of-hand here to fuel several stories. But if Sir Guy can capture the true will along with the daughter, his family's estate will once again be in his possession.
Beth has taken on a new name, in the hope of escaping her turbulent past, and falls in love with Landry Haldane, a land-holder on England's southern coast. At least he professes his undying love for her, but Beth holds on to her own other secret. On Christmas Eve, when she and Landry are to announce their betrothal, Sir Guy finally finds his missing heiress.
When the mother of Landry's daughter is identified as the daughter of the local minister and not her ladies maid as had been previously thought, Guy convinces Beth she cannot marry Landry, but must marry him, instead.
Too many cooks can seriously interfere with the broth, as any number of family members and friends strive to either meld the two lovers together or drive them apart, with varying degrees of success.
In many ways, this is a sweeping saga of family tales. Some bitter, some sweet, all tempestuous. And very, VERY sensual. Author Sarah Stanley takes this old concept and brings it roaring into the 21st century with sex at every turn. Simply put - this is one HOT book! Not for the faint of heart, perhaps, but a fabulous reading experience, nonetheless.
