MIELE LUNA,
By
This review is from: Miele S4580 Luna Canister HEPA Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I received my new Miela Luna 3 days ago. I live in the Pacific NW, so lots of rain (which means lots of dirt) plus two very active dogs that go in and out all day. Needless to say, I needed a vacuum that would really clean my hardwood & tile flooring along with area rugs. This vacuum is wonderful! Great suction, good tools and very well made. It is light in weight and the actual floor attachments move very freeyly to the right and left. The cord is a little short (which I had read in other reviews), but overall it was a good investment. The only reason I did not give this vacuum five stars is because I've use a central vacuum system in the past and they are, by far, the best, but they are VERY expensive. I had originally wanted to put a central vacuum system in my home, but was looking @ $1600.00 (and thats for a small house), so I went with a Miele for about $1000.00 less. All in all, very happy with this vacuum!

Great machine,
This review is from: Miele S4580 Luna Canister HEPA Vacuum Cleaner (Kitchen)
I've had the Luna for 2 years now. It's light, compact, and very well made. Perhaps one caveat to build quality: there are 2 slots to hold the vacuum head when not in use, one for the vertical and one for the horizontal position. When docked horizontally (i.e. the wheels of the machine down) you are tempted to drag it about by the handle.. the connector doesn't really look up to this sort of thing and I have to remind myself not to do it as I'd be pretty sad to see it break. Hasn't yet... Other than that it's golden. ...don't know about how many steps you can drag it down because I don't drag my vacuums down steps. Why would you? It weighs about 4 pounds and has a handle on the top. I do drag it around by the hose all the time and the hose seems well up to that. We have 2 Maine Coons that generate more fur in a day than you can possibly imagine... unless you have one of these beasts. Despite the Luna's small size it packs away a ton of fur without losing suction. You can get about a whole cat worth of fur in one of the bags before it stats to complain. We do not have carpet and I do not have the carpet attachment so my rating is for tile/hardwood general cleaning... which it is great at. It's not a shop-vac and won't pick up metal bolts and the like with the hardwood floor attachment (suction is spread over too great an area for that) but the brushes work great and for real world cleaning it leaves nothing behind. Super easy to extend the nozzle for ceiling corners, etc. The head pivots flat to get under the beds and dressers. Other attachments stow near the handle of the unit - simple to change in and out. It's a joy to use.. highly recommended.

If there's one purchase I'll remember...,

If there's one purchase I'll remember in 2008, it will be my first Miele vacuum. This is by far the best money I spent this year. No regret. I've owned it for about 10 months now and I am fully pleased. The most shocking was the first time I had to change the bag and opened the canister to find the inside of the vacuum spotlessly clean, not a sign of dust. Think about the vacuums you've owned and changing their bags (I'm not even going to address the bagless nightmares.) What would it take to dare you to lick those vacuums' insides? All I can say, is that it wouldn't be much of a dare with my Miele Luna. Worth every penny. Really.

Great suction, great maneuvering, nice and light! For a home that is mostly hard-surfaces and some low pile carpeting this is a fantastic lil vacuum. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the cord is way too short... other than that it's just fantastic!

VERY Disappointed - want to buy mine???,

I am Chief of Operations in my B&B (no employees) and I spend a lot of time vacuuming, and over the years I have used a lot of different vacuums, I consider myself somewhat of an authority.I will begin with positives. My Miele Luna is quiet, light and the head is conveniently flexible (I have the combination rug and floor tool with the non electric hose). This is what makes me crazy. I live in the NorthEast where winters are dry and static is a problem, also I have a shedding yellow lab. As I vacuum with my Miele the static builds on the hose which then attracts dog hair, dust and debris which is then released at random back through the house ie. when the hose accidentally touches the sofa, my pant leg, and where it's stored it drops the payload. Very frustrating and since I am then wearing a lot of what I am cleaning the idea of HEPA is pretty much nullified. Some of the solutions I tried were rubbing the hose with a dryer sheet (didn't work), and running a humidifier before cleaning is mildly helpful. I am not sure why Miele doesn't make a static free hose? Electrolux never had that problem. Oh, another big negative. Apparently these machines are fragile. I was told by a repairman that I must have let my machine drop down a step which is what broke some PLASTIC winding mechanism inside that led to an electrical shortage in the cord. This happened while still under the 1 year warranty but MIELE WOULDN'T HONOR THE WARRANTY. In the 30 years of Electrolux ownership I have never taken one in for repairs and certainly not for it dropping down one step. Finally, compared to my Electrolux, the actual ability to pull in dirt is poor. I have to run over things several times on a hard floor before they get sucked up, and if it's in a corner or along an edge it just doesn't get it at all. If I increase the suction power I can barely move it, poorly designed? My recommendation - DON"T bother with Miele. Buy Electrolux (very expensive) or Sears Kenmore canisters.
