5.0 out of 5 stars The best Vaccum Cleaner ever made!!!
I can tell you without a doubt that this is, by far, the best vacuum I have ever used, and I have tried them all. I was a user of the dyson animal and hated it because I hate not having a bag. The dust bin gets disgusting and difficult to clean, so I moved to an Oreck. I loved the Oreck so lightweight and did a decent a job.

Now my friend went to charity auction, and came home with the Miele S7, how weird. But I gave this whirl and omg I was in love. This thing is whisper quiet, you can actually vacuum while a baby is sleeping. The Vacuum Bag holds everything, not a spec of dust escapes, which is perfect because I'm dust sensitive. Finally it really picks up everything, the suction is superb. Oh yea, it's extremely maneuverable as well.

It is however on the tad heavy side, but only because the build quality is so good. Despite this it is easy to vacuum my entire house without getting tired.

So, unless you need a lightweight vacuum, this is the one to buy! you will very satisfied. I ended up buying one the next day after trying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic vacuum, Miele Jazz, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
I've had the Jazz for only a week now, but in that time it has exceeded my expectations.

I've owned Eureka, Panasonic, Dirt Devil, and Dyson. They died within 3-5 years, or were just ineffective (Dirt Devil was both). Compared to the Miele, these other vacuums sound as loud as jet engines. I find the Dyson DC-14 particularly loud and harsh. The Miele is really quiet (for a vacuum), and the noise that it does make isn't unpleasant; e.g., it's not too high pitched or whiny.

Before using the Miele for the first time, I vacuumed the house with my Eureka SmartVac Boss. I know, the Eureka is a non-starter in the world of boutique vacuums. However, I always thought the Eureka did an OK job of keeping the carpet clean on a day to day basis. As you might predict, the Miele picked up a significant amount of dirt and hair that the Eureka had apparently been missing. Looking in the Miele bag, you might guess that the carpet it just cleaned hadn't been vacuumed in 6 months. Also, the carpet felt softer after using the Miele. The stairs have Berber on them, and the Miele was able to lift the loop-pile back up like no other vacuum has been able to. It wasn't like the Berber was new again (it's well worn and crushed down), but the Miele brush brought more life back into these worn stairs than any other vacuum I've tried.

The maneuverability of the S7 series Miele is fantastic. The swivel neck is not a gimmick; it really works. It's so easy to get the unit around corners, and if you just want straight lines that's no problem either. The Miele's ability to lay flat is also convenient. Often, however, I've found I can't get too far under something because the Miele is still too tall.

I haven't used any of the attachments yet, but the hose is sufficiently long for me. A previous commenter noted how she couldn't get up a full flight of stairs with just the hose. I don't use the hose that way, so I can't comment specifically to that point. I just pick the vacuum up and use the main brush on the stairs. In doing this, I don't find the Miele too heavy, but I haven't quite figured out how to do this and hold it comfortably. When I do the stairs, I go down backwards. When I did this with previous vacuums, I would always feel a bit of the dirt flying back and hitting my shins. This doesn't happen with the Miele. The Miele, apparently, seals the vacuuming area well enough so that everything gets sucked up into the bag. This is great when doing hard floors too, and it's a breeze to switch the brush motor on and off (just flip a switch).

As with one reviewer, I experienced a clicking noise. For me, that was because the vacuum sucked up a piece of hard plastic that got stuck near the roller. I just had to remove it. No big deal.

The brush sensor is a nice feature. This will stop the brush when it senses that something has gotten tangled up. I accidentally sucked up the corner of a dress, but the roller automatically stopped and the dress was not damaged at all. On the flip side, I also ran over the cord and stripped it pretty far down in less than 2 seconds. This demonstrates both how powerful the brush is and how dumb I am. I have run over vacuum electrical cords my entire life, but I've never had one stripped by the vacuum brush this quickly or completely (most vacuums I've had won't strip the cord at all, especially not within 2 seconds as the Miele did). That's a powerful brush.

In short, this is a wonderful vacuum. It does a better job than any other vacuum I've owned. I could buy several $300 vacuums over the next 10-15 years, or I could just buy one Miele (I got mine for $599 locally) that will (hopefully) last 20 years, and end up saving money and having cleaner carpets in the process. So, I bought the Miele, and I love it.

We've had this vacuum about four months now and it gets the job done. It's easy to use despite its somewhat hefty weight and size. The "twist" handle system is a nice feature and works very well, making it easy to maneuver around furniture, etc. The headlight is another nice feature and the cord is plenty long.

The negatives are the as follows: One of the LED lights in the band of lights that make up the headlight quit, it doesn't have as quite much suction as I think it should for a vacuum that costs this much, and the bags, while big, are VERY expensive. One design issue others have commented on is that the cord has to be completely unwound to use the wand.

Overall it's a nice vacuum, and it seems well built and likely to last a good long time, but I think there are vacuums out there that offer better value.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Miele Jazz is Wonderful!!!, January 7, 2011
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
I hesitate in only leaving 4 stars, rather than 5. I will start with the cons, then go to the many pro's. I had read in other reviews that the cord placement should be below the hose placement. I thought the reviewer was being "fussy". But after using the vacuum for several hours, I must agree. The cord gets in the way of easily removing the hose wand, and I remove mine for corners every few minutes of using the vacuum. I'm sure it had to be this way, as the machine is so well thought out, but placement could be better. Second con, my Dyson allows me to keep one attachment stuck on the hose when I put the hose back in place. My new Miele needs the attachment removed to go back to vacuum mode. I use an attachment very often, so kind of a pain to keep putting an attachment back on. NOW, for all the good. This vacuum is amazing. So quiet, and quality. When I start the vacuum it sounds like a muted quality hum of a fine car. The suction is unmatched, and I've had all the best vacuums in the past. I was concerned about going back to a vacuum that requires bags. With many animals, I thought the bag would fill very quickly. Not true, I'm just finishing the first bag after hours of use. I empty the Dyson cup every few minutes, so I thought the bag would only last a few days. It just all compacts into the bag and I'm actually glad not to be dumping the Dyson cup all the time. So now I'm not concerned about spending a fortune in bags, as I'd figured I would. A tad on the heavy side, but that's because of the quality construction. I love that it doesn't tip over when I remove the wand and clean the stairs and corners. The rubber wheels make me feel better about rolling it on my wood flooring upstairs. I have stone and wood flooring, and this is the safest cleaner I've ever had in preventing scratching them during cleaning. The attachments that came with the Miele are wonderful. I'll order more later, but for now I'm good with the included pieces. I wasn't really in the market for a new vacuum just yet, but I'm so glad my inner shopper took over and made me purchase the Miele. I justified it because of the hepa filter and reviewers going on about the healthier choice of a filtered bag system. I look forward to many happy years of use from "buttercup", that's what I've named her since she's a beautiful soft yellow color. Highly Recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars I lurve this vacuum!, March 4, 2010
By
I have fallen head over heels in love with my Miele S7! I will keep this as short as I can but I could go on for days. I have owned Kirby and Oreck uprights and Electrolux canisters and while each had aspects I liked, nothing I have ever used compares to the Miele. I'll give just 2 great examples. 1)The vacuum works so well that my old carpet actually feels new again after vacuuming. You can tell the difference in the pile WITH your shoes on. 2)I have 3, yes THREE, pugs and they have ALWAYS gone berserk every time I vacuum. The barking was like being in kennel but with all the dogs loose so they could also attack you while walked. I used to have to put the dogs outside in order to vacuum which made for only vacuuming in short bursts during the winter. The Miele is like a miracle. They are actually bored and disinterested in the whole vacuuming thing now. I vacuumed all around one of them while he was eating the other day and he never even brought his head out of the bowl. This would have been a beater bar killing offense with my old vacuums. Forget the fact that this vacuum cleans so perfectly, has all the needed tools on board, has a huge dust bag, long supple cord, etc. and on and on, this gorgeous machine has brought peace and harmony to my home. (OK, we still have issues with any delivery person.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Its sucks! Like it is SUPPOSED to! Amazing product!, August 16, 2011
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
Where to start? This is an amazing vacuum!!! We decided to put a good sum of money into a vacuum due to family health issues with asthma and allergies, and in our research the Miele line is in the top 10 list. We were fearful of spending so much on a vacuum for the first time but decided to give it a chance...

We got more than we expected! This vacuum is unbelievable. It has several joints for swiveling, and with a simple twist of the wrist you can vacuum in circular motions to move around table legs, or to swing it over to edges without a "bang." It can also bow down very low so you can actually travel deeper under the bed or coffee table than any other vacuum.

It is a heavy unit, yes, so working on the staircase is more challenging, but that is the ONLY con--no, not a con really, just a fact that if you want something with true power and quality its going to have some meat to its bones!!!

The suction of this vacuum is VERY powerful; surprising when you hear how quiet it is compared to a Wal-mart-sold Shark, which shrieks with its tiny engine. Our first run in our two-story house left us feeling like we never vacuumed before as we heard the crackling sound of dirt being lifted from the carpet. We had just used our old vacuum days before--it should have been clean! The carpet looks great after its pass, and we see no sign of wear at all.

Our kitchen is tile, and again this monster did the job spectacularly. Previously, every other vacuum we used would just push dirt around on tile, and we never bothered to vacuum in the kitchen, we would just sweep. But this is no longer necessary!

We were wary of a bag-based vacuum, concerned with expense again. Well, we bought this vacuum in April 2011. We just changed the bag today, August 16 2011, though it looks like it still has some room. That is a LONG time! Its suction power compacts the dirt in the bag so tightly it conserves space for more.

The hose and attachments are great; We now vacuum our curtains! Great for long reaches to ceiling corners without using a chair.

We love how smart the machine is; once you pull it upright, it automatically shuts off the carpet rotors so you don't accidentally damage your floor. Very nice feature. Also, the lights are actually helpful under tables or chairs and in corners.

We can't say enough about this. It has helped us with our home health issues greatly.

We have only one piece of advice; just like any vacuum, make sure you don't use it to pick up stuff you know you shouldn't, like large pieces of paper, etc. We did have one jam in its tubes due to an accidntal sucking of a few clothing tags.
We thought it stopped working properly, as we was dirt spraying in front of the lights. Then we dug into the tube and saw the jam. This accident is what provoked us to write this review; the jam was deep in teh tubing towards the bottom. We then noticed a section in teh back of the vacuum that has large black screws. We opened it up and lo! it was an access port to the tubing! There we found the jam!!!! Miele, very clever people, put in a port for deep jams!!! I have never seen anything like this before!!!

Another piece of advice; the color is a pale yellow...we love it actually! The whole vacuum looks like a 1950's automobile parked in front of a Soda shop! But, when going under the bed or under furniture (for those quick jobs when you don't move furniture out of the way) if you tap the furniture you can scratch the Jazz, leaving dark stains on it, so be careful going under beds, try not to allow the unit to bang into furniture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best vacuum I have ever owned!, April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
I love my new Miele Jazz upright vacuum, as much as you can love a vacuum I suppose! I have owned mainstream brand vacuums in the past, all lasting only a couple years at most, and with problems on top of that. The one exception was my grandmother's older Hoover from the '80s, which is still working and is the vacuum we have donated and replaced with the excellent Miele. It was a little hard to spend so much money on a vacuum, but I am convinced that we bought a vacuum that will not need to be replaced for a long time. The vacuum is well built, a little on the heavy side, but still glides along with ease. My carpets, rugs and hard reach dusty areas have never looked better! The attachments and hose are very handy and something I missed on our last vacuum, but never worked well on other vacuums! The cord is super long and reaches my whole house with just one central outlet. The bags and filters might be a little more expensive than a cheaper vacuum's but, they are better quality and last longer, so I am not too bothered by it. I like having the dirt and dust I worked hard to vacuum up stay contained. The air coming out of the HEPA filter is fresh and clean, jut like my house now! My brother who works at a major electronics/appliance store and who uses a Dyson everyday, says that this is a much nicer vacuum. My husband even likes to use the vacuum now as well! We are very happy with the Miele Jazz!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best vacuum cleaner I've ever used, February 4, 2012
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
A bit of background first. In the last 30 years, I've had three vacuum cleaners: two top-of-the line Hoovers, and a Kenmore; all uprights. The Hoover Concept One lasted maybe 12 years. My uncle first recommended the Miele to me a couple of years ago. I read about it; it seemed like an impressive machine, but my Hoover was still serviceable and I'm pretty cheap. Anyway, last month the motor housing of the Hoover somehow got knocked askew so that the vacuum leaned to one side. Ok - time to reconsider the Miele. I developed asthma a few years back, so I opted for the Jazz because it had the HEPA filter. All I can say it that I don't drive a German luxury car, but this Miele is built for high performance like a BMW and just as solidly. Apart from the excellent filtration system, the adjustable suction control and auto height adjustment are nice features. I've never been a fan of headlights since I never found them all that useful and the bulbs are a pain to replace, but this Miele has a row of LED lights and they are actually quite useful when using the wand attachment to clean under furniture with low clearance. The extendable wand is very nice - it easily allows me to reach up to the ceiling to suck up those occasional cobwebs. As for drawbacks, there's only two: (1) this unit is noticeably heavier than my old Hoover, which makes it a bit of a chore to haul up and down stairs, (2) the replacement HEPA filter costs $50.00! The first drawback is somewhat offset by the swivel neck design, which really helps maneuverability. I guess I can justify the cost of the filters because of my asthma. The Miele website has some interesting articles describing comparing particulate emissions from different brands of vacuums.I've seen generic HEPA filters for Miele at about half the cost of the genuine filters, but in the end I figure I've only got one set of lungs so why skimp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love to use this vacuum, May 10, 2011
This review is from: Miele S7 Jazz S7280 Upright Vacuum Cleaner Melon Yellow (Kitchen)
I bought a Cat & Dog model locally and had a problem with the release pedal. The dealer would only repair, not replace, which I thought was wrong due to the cost. When I received the "repaired" machine it was worse! I demanded a refund and got it. I liked the vacuum so much, I decided to take a chance and order another from a different place. I got the Jazz, upgraded to a Cat & Dog, and absolutely love it. My husband notices that I now vacuum a lot more because it's so easy to use this machine. I agree with others that it's aggravating to have to completely unwind the cord when you want to use the hose, but that's a minor inconvenience when I consider the whole package. This machine is quiet, maneuvers well, fits under furniture that my old vacuum didn't, has a handy control for turning the roller brush on and off, has a nice long cord so I don't have to keep unplugging and plugging it back in and great suction on carpet, furniture and hard floors. The extended hose doesn't quite reach the top of my stairs, but it gets a lot further than my old vacuum before I have to pick it up and balance to do the remaining steps. It's surprisingly easy to carry up and down stairs too. I used to struggle with my old Eureka. I am glad I paid the extra money and got the Miele. Try it! You'll like it!

We have been very pleased with the performance of the Meile vacuum cleaner to date. It appears to work as advertized, and is well built. Changing bags is very simple, as is the use of the attachments. It's articulating design makes the vaccuum very maneuverable. A well thought out design, without a lot of unnecessary "bells and whistles".
