4.0 out of 5 stars German engineering
I have never seen a vacuum cleaner adapter like this. The STB101 uses the vacuum suction to drive a rotational brush head. I was surprised by how much brushing force it generates. You mainly use the adapter to vacuum stairway, it's small and it's easier to manuver. However, it still cannot get to the small 1/2 inch strip along the edges. You can use the adapter for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Would be better if it were electric!!
I LOVE my capricorn. I purchased the car kit, and this came with it. It is not as powerful as I would have hoped. It would be SO much better if this were electrically powered (if Electrolux can make a powered turbo brush, how come a high end company like Miele cannot?). I cannot give this brush any more than 3 stars due to the fact that it will bog down if it you push...

You can use the adapter for furniture upholstry also, but I would recommend it only for occasional deep cleaner. I'm not sure how furniture fabric can stand up to the rotating brush in the long run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best optional Miele attachment for cat hair, March 10, 2011

This review is from: Miele STB101 Mini Turbo Brush (Kitchen)
People seem to either love this or hate it. I am definitely a lover of the Miele STB101 Mini Turbo Brush.

Here's 4 reasons why: four cats. The lazy indoor-only kind that sleep all day on soft things.

I can tell my black cat's favorite soft surface du jour by the breadth and depth of the black fur he leaves behind. This mini turbo brush removes EVERY cat hair in just a few swipes in both directions. I have several cream-colored blankets he has adopted and I thought they could never be cleaned. Machine washing and drying never extracts the fur enough, and I can use an entire lint brush (the kind with sticky paper) before and after washing and still see fur. With the turbo brush, I can remove all visible hair easily, then can wash the blanket.

Some people don't like the brush because it is air-generated and can seize up at times without its own machine drive mechanism. I do encounter this, but after many uses, I find this happens on some surfaces more than others. If I just use a light touch, adjust the suction, and/or move the brush in the opposite direction, no problems at all.

Just be very careful handling this attachment while in use. Don't get your hands, clothing, or hair too close to the brush. I thought this warning was pretty silly when I saw it in the instructions, but as I use the brush more and more, I can see that I do often bring the attachment close to my body as I navigate about with it. Definitely, make sure you engage or disengage it with the machine OFF.

This brush picks up cat hair off soft blankets and upholstery like no other vacuum attachment I have ever used. I am so glad I paid extra for this attachment for my Miele Neptune.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for smaller surfaces, September 5, 2010
This review is from: Miele STB101 Mini Turbo Brush (Kitchen)
Although pricey, this relatively light-weight brush to me is a necessary accessory for my Miele Capricorn S5980 w/SEB236 Powerbrush. We have three cats and a 2-story home, i. e. lots of cat hair on the cat tree, the carpeted stairs, chairs, etc. Although my vacuum came with two different brushes (the large power brush and a parquet brush), none are suitable for these surfaces because they are too big, too heavy or not cut out for the job (in the case of the parquet brush).

The Mini Turbo Brush works great on these difficult surfaces. The built-in brush rotates not because of a dedicated motor as the large brush does, but only through the airflow when the vacuum is turned on. So at first I was a bit skeptical that enough dirt and debris would be picked up. However, it generates surprisingly strong suction and cleaning action and is now my go-to brush for all these smaller or angled surfaces where the large brush can't be used. The brush head swivels to make it even easier to reach such surfaces.

The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I find the head a bit too bulky (especially the rounded part), making it a wee bit tedious to for example get to the vertical stair surfaces (our steps have a bit of an overhang so successful vacuuming means to be able to get the brush head in there. But all in all it does a much better job than the large brush or any ordinary hand-held so I am very happy with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well built - air powered, November 7, 2010

As you would expect from Miele, this little brush is very nicely engineered and well made. It works better than any air powered brush I've ever used. However, air powered means you can apply too much pressure and stop the brush from spinning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good brush, but too expensive, May 17, 2011
This review is from: Miele STB101 Mini Turbo Brush (Kitchen)
This is a good air powered brush, I have a Miele Callisto and on the "ear" setting, this thing is pretty strong. When you touch the rotating brush it is spinning really fast and has quite a force. I used it to clean a large cloth couch and it worked well. Being air powered you could hear the brush slow down as it was rubbing against the cloth but it still continued to turn, never actually stopped. I dont think the brush not being electrically powered is that big a deal as the brush roll is there really to pick up hair, disturb the cloth surface and suck out the dust, dander, pollen, mold, whatever. You dont have furniture with deep carpet piles on it, the fabric on a couch is much thinner, so a motor powered brush could be overkill. Now carpet on stairs is a different story, it does have deep carpet piles and is of more durable contruction than a couch, therefore it can take the force of a powered brush. I haven't yet used it for the stairs as I just muscle the SEB 228 to clean the stairs, but I can imagine it wont be able to clean as deep since it doesnt have to power to really push the fibers aside as well and suck deep down.

The two major cons about the brush for me is the size and the price. It was larger than i expected, I thought it is kind of bulky and could be slimmed down. The other con of course is the price. If you really cant use for floor powerhead to vaccum the stairs, then this would be a good subsitute, just understand it wont replace a real powerhead. For cleaning your upholstery, i think this is excellent and I believe this is the reason you should buy this if you have this need.

Wow. Didn't think I would ever get the dog hair up. This thing really works on pet hair. Expensive but very worth it.

Just received this today, so durability and longevity are not considered yet regarding this review. But, this turned a 20 minute job, vacuuming pet hair from my extra large couch, into a 5 minute job! Such a difference!!! Think I will love this tool...

1.0 out of 5 stars Non standard sized fitting, May 10, 2011

This review is from: Miele STB101 Mini Turbo Brush (Kitchen)
This brush does not fit a normal vacuum cleaner hose like VacuFlo, Hoover, Electrolux, etc. It is not a 1 1/4 inch opening and the standard hose nozzle slides all the way into the unit until it hits the internal mechanism.
