We use this salt for our Miele G-894SC dishwasher. We have moderately hard water in Indianapolis and a high mineral content. I fought with our old dishwasher for many years, because our dishes were always cloudy and our glasses had a film. This salt is on the high end of price, (others have mentioned Morton's) but it was recommended by the OEM and I've not had a problem with my dishwasher. The only bother has been lack of availability in our local stores.

Somat salt is a very fine and pure salt compound designed specifically for Meile dishwashers with a softening system. Some here post that you can use ice cream salt. Yes, you can, if you want to destroy your expensive dishwasher (and also void the warranty). Ice cream salt is course, not terribly pure and is intended for making ice cream, not softening the water in your dishwasher. The Somat salt is pricey in the US, but lasts a long time and does wonders for your dishes and flatwear. The price in part reflects the refinement and purity as well as the fact that it is shipped to the States from Germany, so of course it costs more here than in Europe. If you don't want to pay for the right salt, you are better off just leaving the conditioner empty in your machine. Read your Owner's Guide......it's all there in black and white.

Basically, buying an expensive, high performance and well-made European dishwasher and using unrecommended, cheap products is like buying a new Mercedes and using cheap, regular grade gas instead of the recommended high octane. If you don't want to use the right products, just really save some money and buy a GE or Whirlpool.

This product is great and one box lasts me six months. Dishes come out clean and shiny with no grit or clouding. Also helps speed up the drying process.

The Somat water softener salt has helped my dishes get cleaner and not so spotted.

I had been using water softener salt in my beloved Danby dishwasher, but it doesn't work out all that well. This is perfect, easy to use, and good results with dishes coming out sparkling. Love that Danby and really glad to find this salt at a good price.

I have a Danby portable dishwasher that requires dishwasher salt. I've never owned a dishwasher that required this before. It isn't commonly available in stores so I'm glad to see that Amazon carries it. I would like to say it makes my dishes come out cleaner, but I'm not sure what its effectiveness truly is. Either way, my dishwasher requires it and I no longer need to look at a flashing red light which asks me to add salt.

I bought a box a year ago for my new Miele, but was concerned that I'd be ordering frequently, even though I live in a relatively 'soft' water area. But, it's been a whole year of one to 3 loads of dishes a day and my 'add salt' indicator just now came on. So, however the dishwasher adjusts for the hardness of the water must work well, and I'm very pleased with results.

This stuff is hard to find and is required for certain MIELE dishwashers that have a hard water control option. We found out the hard way that if you pay for this option it can be hard to find the recommended salt. Amazon is a good and convenient source, but you may want to pony up for Amazon Prime as these boxes aren't cheap to ship.

Recently bought a new dishwasher (Bosch) that needs salt. Oddly, the dishwasher didn't come with a sample, so didn't have any salt for the first week we had the dishwasher. Added some when this box came and do feel that I can see a difference in the dishes. Seem cleaner. Find I'm going through the salt faster than I would have guessed that we would have, so I'll be buying more in a larger quantity in the future.
