I was a little apprehensive about spending more than $200 on a stick vacuum, but the Miele S163 is definitely worth it. First of all, it's quiet, so you definitely don't need to turn it off to hear the phone/doorbell ring. The best thing about it is the amazing suction...my carpet looked brand-new and my sofa hasn't been as lint-free since I bought it. The S163 does not come with the HEPA filter like the S168 does (but you can get one for less than $110, which is what the price difference is). The S163 comes with two attachments: the crevice nozzle and upholstery brush. It has a carpet/floor switch, too, and works wonders on my hardwood floors. The electrical cord is nice and long (I can vacuum a few rooms of my small condo at a time without having to unplug). All in all, a great buy!

We live in a large condominium with all hardwood floors. The Miele S163 works great for a place like ours...it sucks up all the junk messing up our floors... crumbs and dust are completely gone with a quick swipe--it's really light and has a long cord --and has a lot of power. We have a few area rugs and it cleans them really well. We recommend this vacuum -

We have owned this Miele vacuum cleaner for 9 years. It is still wonderful. It is by far the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. The only things we have had to replace on it, is it's bag and HEPA filters. The vacuum has needed no repairs. I have used it to clean not only the floor, but also the furniture and drapes. My husband has allergies, and this was a large part of the reason we bought it. Other vacuums stirred up too much dust and caused his allergies to act up. Not with the Miele.
It is quieter than any vacuum I have ever used.
I don't think it is superior because of the extra money we paid for, I think it is superior because of it's lasting power, excellent cleaning capabilities, and low maintenance.
