I dont understand the rating of one star by first reviewer, who thinks highly of Juan Luis Guerra and this album. Judging from the review, the album merits 5 stars. There may have been a misunderstanding of rating system. This brings average ratings down. I think Juan Luis Guerra is one of the finest musicians of the 20th century, who helped us all, especially latin americans, share the flavor of his beautiful country, (without forgetting to give us a conscientious and fair analysis of its reality), its contagious and exhuberant music. His music has reached all corners of the world, erasing the borders of the Dominican Republic and making us all part of it with his songs to life, love and God's blessings to human kind. May God always bless him and may we see him again on stage all over the world.

This album is from the beginnings of the 440 group. At this age Juan Luis was trying to give merengue what he had learned at Berklee. Nice orchestation and very good vocal harmony. This is now a collector item for JLG fans.

I consider this CD as the best work of Juan Luis Guerra. It's incredibly beautiful, the melody, the lyrics, the meaning, everything. I love it. If you like Juan Luis Guerra this CD is "a must".

After the release of 'Mientras mas lo pienso... Tu' the world of merengue would never be the same. Only one merengue musician (Wilfrido Vargas) had reached the relevance and had transformed the genre as deeply as Juan Luis Guerra would, starting with this album, which threw him into the stratosphere of musical stardom, after his name had just been a part of the musical team collectively known as 4:40 that had previously been famous for the classic "Si Tu Te Vas".
As for the album itself, the titletrack ("Tu") stands out, but it comes loaded with song after song that years later have turned into merengue standards, with "Amor de Conuco," "Me Enamoro de Ella" and "?Ay! Mujer" being the best examples. With Juan Luis Guerra, you cannot go wrong, since he's not had a dull album ever, but if you want to listen to the album where he acccomplished a radical transformation of the genre, almost creating a new genre (Bachata) altogether, check out 'Bachata Rosa'.
