Von 1938 bis 1958 plante und baute Mies van der Rohe die neue Campusanlage für das Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Beschränkte Geldmittel zwangen zu äußerster Sparsamkeit. Diese Herausforderung weckte die innovative Kraft des Architekten. Mit tragenden Ziegelsteinwänden, sichtbaren Stahlbetonskelett- und reinen Stahlskelettbauten erreichte Mies eine architektonische Meisterleistung von schlichter Schönheit. Die klare Ordnung und Struktur des Grundrasters erwies sich für die verschiedenen Labor- und Unterrichtsgebäude als eine die Zeit überdauernde gute Lösung. Werner Blaser, Mitarbeiter Mies van der Rohes, liefert eine sorgfältige, übersichtlich aufgebaute Darstellung in Text und Bild. This is a nice book deadicaqted strickly to the IIT campus. It gives a brief history and understanding of the campus and its buildings. The black and white photos are compeling and are the focus of the book. It is a great and fast recource for a general understanding of this campus. I wish it had been longer and had more text is all i can really say bad about it.
