5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Little Book
My one year old daughter loves Miffy to the point where when she sees Miffy on her book or DVD, she sings the first two notes of the miffy theme song. We had to order Miffy so that she could be entertained when Miffy wasn't on Noggin and I have enjoyed the board books and DVD's, but I was quite surprised with this particular book. 3.0 out of 5 stars Surprising
My wife and I have never read any of the other Miffy books. Our two year old son loves this book. It is fairly simple and straight forward until the controversial ending, which you have probably read a lot about already. My wife and I are both fairly laid back, so we were not offended by the book and actually got a huge laugh out of it. That being said, it is quite...

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Little Book, November 30, 2004
This review is from: Miffy's Magnifying Glass (Board book)
My one year old daughter loves Miffy to the point where when she sees Miffy on her book or DVD, she sings the first two notes of the miffy theme song. We had to order Miffy so that she could be entertained when Miffy wasn't on Noggin and I have enjoyed the board books and DVD's, but I was quite surprised with this particular book. As you go through each page and see a part of the next page through the "magnifying glass", you never see the last page coming. Be prepared for a little potty humor in the end. Personally, I laughed, but I do find it a little strange to put a picture of a puppy who has pottied with a line about having an accident in a children's book. Evidently from people I have talked to about this, there are books out there completely about bodily functions for the youngest of age groups. Regardless of what I think about this book, the bottom line is my baby loves it and it keeps her entertained. She will bring it to me and insist I read it to her over and over until I have to distract her and hide it for a bit before we start the cycle again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come on people- it's harmless humor!, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Miffy's Magnifying Glass (Board book)
My 10 month old daughter adores Miffy and she shares her home with pets. I purchased this book readying myself for the worst after reading some of the 1-star Amazon ratings. I laughed when it actually arrived, it is so harmless. The last page shows the backside of a Bruna drawn dog with a small "soft serve" pile of poo underneath him (hardly what I would call "graphic"). Dog poo is a fact of life and in the whole scheme of things, a fairly benign one. This book won't scar your child in any way.

It is fairly simple and straight forward until the controversial ending, which you have probably read a lot about already. My wife and I are both fairly laid back, so we were not offended by the book and actually got a huge laugh out of it. That being said, it is quite unusual. It is not simply dog poop. It is a close up picture of a dog's butthole after having made a poop. Shocking!! While I find it funny, I can see why others may not. It is certainly unexpected.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book!, September 16, 2008

This review is from: Miffy's Magnifying Glass (Board book)
Well, me and my son love any and ALL Miffy and I found the surprise ending of this book HILARIOUS! It is really unexpected, but I thought that is one of the things that made it great. Poop is a part of every creature's everyday lives and it isn't something to see as taboo or shameful, ESPECIALLY in a simple, straight-forward, line-drawn form. Kids see dog butts and dog poop all the time if you ever let them outside of the house, so why is this such a big deal? This is a cute book! Dog butts, poop piles and everything else!

3.0 out of 5 stars We thought it so strange that we made a video of a reading of the book for a friend across the country, February 1, 2007
This review is from: Miffy's Magnifying Glass (Board book)
Our 18 month old daughter received this book as a gift. It's cute through most of the book with simple, bold illustration. The pages are thick cardboard that will last quite a while through many readings.

However, the ending was a surprise. We found it puzzling and funny at the same time. We decided to share it with a friend of ours who lives 1700 miles away.

This video will give you a great look at the quality and surprise ending of the book:

2.0 out of 5 stars Unexplained potty humer..., April 4, 2005

My daughter rec'd 'Miffy says I love you' for her 1st Birthday & loves it so much that I went against my usual rule of reading a book first before purchasing, & bought this one...BIG mistake. The book ends with a close-up picture of a dog's anus & a pile of poo! Now I'm all for a little potty humer, if explained, but it goes without any explanation & the picture is pretty graphic. Without showing the dog's frontside, how would my 15 month old even know it's a dog! Pass on this Miffy book & go for 'Miffy says I love you'...

1.0 out of 5 stars Miffy's Magnifying Glass, February 17, 2006
This review is from: Miffy's Magnifying Glass (Board book)
My daughter loves Miffy. She was so excited when I started to read this book, then came the last page. I was in shock with what I saw. I couldnt believe it! It was a great book until the last page. I think I know when I see something funny, but this just wasn't. It was a picture of Scruffy's butt and a pile of poo. I tried to find the humor in it, but it was just stupid and gross. I didnt know what to say to my little girl to explain so I just closed it and returned it. I asked lots of people what they thought and everyone found it totally inappropriate, including a teenage boy whos exact words were "wow thats raw, it should have a sticker on it for parental discretion". Soooooo dissapointed in Dick Bruno, shes a sweet little bunny, but the book is not!!

This family with an 18 month old has been enjoying Dick Bruna's wonderful Miffy books and looked forward to adding to our collection. Miffy's Magnifying Glass went right back to Amazon upon getting a look at the last page. Miffy's a cutie but this one is a bomber.

This book is HORRIBLE! When I first received it as a gift for my oldest daughter, I was rather excited. Short, easy to read book. Bedtime would come earlier. Then we got to the last page. Try explaining it to your 2-year old whose in the "why" stage!! Unfortunately, both of my kids were drawn to this book, probably because of the cute bunny and bright colors. I ended up hiding it from them for the longest time. I've even listed it on half.com. Surprisingly, no buyers as of yet.
