Among her father's friends were Johnny Mercer, Jerome Kern, Gus Kahna "who's who" of American musicand she credits them with influencing her career. The narrative also abounds with reminiscences of Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney and other film greats past and present. From Library Journal
Daughter of famed songwriter Richard Whiting, Margaret grew up in Beverly Hills among the rich and famous. Signed up with the newly formed Capitol label, Whiting scored with a string of hits, and before she was 20 was one of the most popular big band singers. Rock 'n' roll dimmed her star status, but she prospered on the night club and cruise ship circuit, and in recent years has starred in two well-received theater shows. A romantic free spirit, Whiting tells of her three marriages and many lovers. Whiting fans and big band enthusiasts may enjoy the Tin Pan Alley reminiscences and tales of her mildly titillating sexcapades; others will find the revelations a big yawn.
