5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrical, swinging tenor sax treat, June 1, 2006

This review is from: Might Mike Couzzo (Audio CD)
Mike Cuozzo (ts) Eddie Costa (vibes) Ronnie Ball (p) Vinnie Burke (b) Kenny Clarke (d)

This is a terrific mainstream `50s jazz CD, with excellent, swinging playing throughout. Mike Cuozzo is a fine tenorsax man, lyrical with a warm and inviting sound - and he swings, too. THERE'LL NEVER BE ANOTHER YOU is taken up tempo and Mike swings it mightily, staying mostly in the lower range of his horn. UNDERSIDED is an original by pianist Ronnie Ball with a simple though attractive theme; everyone solos on this track. Kenny Clarke's delicate drumming is a high point on the album. NANCY is a ballad feature and Mike plays it without getting maudlin as some do on this tune. Costa and Ball also solo nicely here. This CD might be out of print now, but Savoy has a tendency of reissuing its catalogue every so often; if you should see this one around, grab it - you won't be disappointed.
