Pidgeons: Fly From Thy Perch and Rock Their Faces Off!,
By Matt Poole "Prying Open Your Third Eye" (Louisville, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Might as Well Go Eat Worms (Audio CD)
This band has elements reminiscent of The Pixies--on steroids.
This was the first of their two albums (the other being From Gutter With Love) that I've now given a try. I must say, this surprised me with it's fresh spin on, and mixture of, early 90's indie-rock/thrash conventions. Featuring duel-vocalists (a male screamer/singer and a female singer) who each have the ability to roll with any kind of riff rhythmically, you never know what's going to happen next in each song. It's really quite interesting. The music may be soft, but the screams will be wailing. Or the music may turn heavy and fast, but the female vocalist will sing over it in her very light, feminine tone. Anyways, if you can deal with screams that slightly mime Chino Moreno from Deftones, and music adjacent to a heavier version ofThe Pixies (with, as the band themselves put it, influence by Motorhead and the Cardigans as well)...then do yourself a favor and check this one out.
