Mighty Day The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion,
By Gary A Friedrichs (Escondido, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mighty Day - The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion (Audio CD)
As artists they are among the best in Folk Music. (I fondly remember them back in the 60's when I first heard them and subsequently purchased all of their record albums...you know...those large plastic disks with groves on them and spun at a remarkably high speed of 33-1/3 RPM.....OH--- they used to have groves on them!) Anyway--while I didn't always agree with their political views (I think we can agree to disagree) I nevertheless loved their singing style and enjoyed their "sing along" type of songs. Having John Denver (whom I greatly miss) join them for the last two songs is definetly a treat. The Song--"The great Historical Bum" is a masterpiece. The ballad of the Greenland Whalers" is great and I still find myself humming or whistling it....a real "mind sticker" I highly recommend this CD.

CMT + JD Album,
By Zbodhimama "spiritabroad" (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mighty Day - The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion (Audio CD)
Sometimes reunion albums are a bit embarassing, especially if the performers' voices have faded a bit. However, the Chad Mitchell Trio sounded as great as ever, if slightly mellower, in this concert. Their distinctive sound was still there over twenty years later. John Denver fans will be disappointed that he sang on only two of the numbers, but it's a classic. I enjoyed the way he blended in as a part of the trio and didn't dominate as the "star."

Still Mighty,

This review is from: Mighty Day - The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion (Audio CD)
I grew up listening to my parents' Chad Mitchell Trio albums in the 60's. That collection was something my siblings and I argued over when mom no wanted longer it. Because I didn't get custody, I was pleased to find this album a few years ago. The Trio still sounds as good as ever, with harmonies that are matched by few groups today. The album features the original trio, joined by John Denver (who had replaced Chad Mitchell in the later 1960s) for the last two songs. All are songs they recorded decades ago and most still hold up surprising well. The satire of "An African Song" will, unfortunately, not be lost on today's udience. "Which Hat Shall I Wear" probably holds up the least well. The talent still remains in this group, making me wish they'd record some new material. I'd definely still keep buying them.
