C'mon, Rhino Folks!,

If you guys can't help tacking on bonus tracks to so many of these classic albums that you currently have in your catalog, then why don't you make sure they're the ones that were most likely left off due to running time constraints? Adding throwaway tracks (not even related to the actual recording sessions!) to an R&B/Soul masterpiece like the Spinners' Mighty Love really brings down the original effort several notches. That aside...a fine slice of Philly Soul goodness to be found here for the most part. 5 stars easily for the original album, 2 stars for the unrelated bonus tracks. Maybe the Rhino staff will finally put their collective "horns" together and figure out that sometimes more is just plain overkill. And if they badly want to add extra material, then they should just incorporate it on another disc (if they have not done so already). Otherwise, LET IT BE!

One of the all-time great albums, soul or otherwise,
This review is from: Mighty Love (Audio CD)
This is truly an incredible album, producer Thom Bell's crowning glory and the centerpiece of 1970's Philadelphia soul. Recorded at legendary Sigma Sound Studios in Philly and backed by their incredible houseband MFSB, it's all here: love, loss, joy, heartache, passion, despair, and finally, redemption. More than a collection of songs, it truly is a moving experience. It's one of those rare occasions that bonus tracks actually detract from the power of the album, but just program them out. Buy it now, you WILL NOT be sorry! PS Will Rhino please reissue Phillipe Wynne's wonderful solo album "Starting All Over" now? Please??

Epic singing and production!,
This review is from: Mighty Love (Audio CD)
The legends follow up their incredible "Spinners" Atlantic debut album with this gem. No sophomore slump here, wow! The title track, plus "I'm Coming Home" and "Love Don't Love Nobody" are enough just to get the album.
The inspirational lyrics of "Mighty Love" are excellent, and the rotating leads by Bobbie Smith and Philippe Wynne are tremendous. What a production! Wynne takes off on "I'm Coming Home" a fun-loving, pump up that obviously has some gospel roots to it. This is arguably the late great Wynne's greatest performance as a Spinner, though one could argue his best performance is a couple of songs later in "Love Don't Love Nobody" a semi-big hit for the group. A tremendous ballad with some good ol' fashion truth to the lyrics. As usual the group's non-hits are not fillers, but excellent songs. "He'll Never Love You Like I Do" is so good it should've been a hit, but wasn't. Henry Fambrough sounds great on "Ain't No Price on Happiness", his smooth baritone voice truly one of the best in the business. OK, Rhino made a big mistake in adding four throw away bonus tracks, which aren't on the original album. There's a reason why the group and producers didn't release them: They're not good. Luckily all four are at the end of the album and not mixed in, so one can listen to the original great eight songs and just end it there. Thom Bell produces another masterpiece for the phenomenal five!

If you are a SPINNERS' fan, you must have this CD!,

This albumn (CD) was released in the mid 70's but to my surprise the sound and lyrics are soooo good today. It is a must for your collection. Lead singer Phillip Wayne shines on "Love Don't Love Nobody" the original recording of this song.

and then call it the original! They'd NEVER do this to Elvis or any other white heroes. How dare them. I will take my album and convert it to digital myself. These mean more than simply music to those of us who grew up during this era. These songs, these notes, these voices represent the souls of black folks, before multinational corporations screwed up soul and R and B. want my money back.

Now this one I wouldd give 10 stars if I could for the song "Love Don't Love Nobody" by itself. This was one of their best. Let's not forget the title song "Mighty Love", because that we had back in the day. And always remember "I'm Coming Home" and "He'll Never Love You Like I Do". Fantastic!

This is an excellent recording of some of the best Soul Music. Real Soul Music. Not any of that watered-down, synthesized-helper stuff that tries to pass for Soul Music. The sound quality is suberb, but most importantly the music is exceptional.

Great album from the mighty mighty Spinners. Love don't love nobody is a classic. I would love to get a version without the extra "bonus" tracks. They really bring down a great album. 5 stars without the bonus tracks!
