Nice units and I have bought several previously as well, but most had defective parts. In this case, both keypads, which are an integral part, were defective. I had to return to the manufacturer for replacements, which they are good about replacing. Frustrating when you have to go through it almost every time (which keeps it at three stars).

This is the second of the Mighty Mule FM145 Bulldog Pedestrian Gate Lock systems that I have purchased. They are the best lock I have found for a Pendestrian Gate. Very, very heavy duty! Great pricing on Amazon, etc. Designed for use in the real world, so you can install them (as I have) on wooden gates that have the tendency to sag, etc.

The only difficulty is that the wiring is a little tricky unless you are a midget electrician (no offence to my small friends). The connectors in the keypad box are hard to wire correctly with anything equal to or larger than normal sized hands. The wire used is very very thin standed wire and is difficult to get all of the fine strands into the connector with normal sized digits. If you don't get all of the fine wire in place, you may short out the keypad, as I did on the first unit I purchased.

Knowing that, this second unit installed correctly the first time and I expect it to be bullet proof in operation as the first unit was after correct installation.

So this is best unit out there. Can't beat the price!

I would recommend this product to anyone and buy itagain.

I bought 2 units, they both worked out of the box. I did have to contact tech support because I wanted to use rechargable batteries and a power source as a back-up which the product supports ... but they don't tell you the input voltage you need just the part number of a transformer they supply. Tech support was quick to answer that it was 12 volt so I just tied it to the battery back-up for my driveway gates.

It took about an hour to install each, 2 minutes to program and they are working great. The biggest part of the job was geting the necessary mounting hardware!

This is my first time reviewing, but i felt it was necessary. I bought this kit mid DEC 2010 and its end of Jan 2012 with no success. I received the item from amazon in no time, and immediate began to set it up. I work in construction, so its not like i don't have a clue how to set up the equipment. The first keypad i received the 1,2,3 numbers had no response when pressed and every other button (including the program button) when pressed once would automatically open the gate. I tried resetting the unit with no luck, so i called their tech #. The tech agreed that the unit was faulty and set me up with the option to return it for a new one. I sent the keypad back at my own expense and about two weeks later i received a keypad back. I went back to to set it up and the same problem occurred. I looked at the serial number and the company sent me the original one I sent them back to me. I am livid with this company and will be calling this week to speak with a manger and then followed by the Better Business Bureau. This is absolutely the exact unit i sent them, batteries still in and everything. Keypads seem like the same problem across the board on many reviews. Its a great idea and simple install, but buyer beware the keypad could be your biggest headache.

Mighty Mule FM145 Bulldog Pedestrian Gate Lock, To provide security or since of security for my mother, we tried out 2 locks, She has been able to enter and exit the property without incident.
I bought 2 more for my daughters house and they have worked out as planned, we built a metal frame with metal post and secured the lock to the metal by welding, the fence is wood.

So, the keypad is a little cheap feeling, but easy enough to program, and seems sturdy.

However, the design of the locking pin on the lock body is such that you have to SLAM the gate for it to lock properly, even when it's well lubricated.
I bought two - one I can return but the other is a write-off as I've installed it (wires cut to fit etc). I'm going to have to toss it, and look for an alternate product.

Bought this for our pedestrian gate. Installation was easy and code set up was also easy. Would definitly recommend this.
Definitely worth the price - it was cheaper to buy it from Amazon than anywhere else.

It died because the battery compartment inside of the keypad fractured. The keypad is under shade of a large tree all the time. The manufacture must use some cheapest plastic to make this. Even when it was functional, the latch release is so weak that if the door touches the latch while it's opening it would not open.
my point: DON'T buy this!

note: I tried asking Amazon to send me a replacement. They said it's over 30 days. I'm on my own. Wish I had purchased from Homedepot, they would take it back immediately.

I installed this system on our chain link/cyclone fence gate in one day. I had to make a mounting plate for it to bolt onto, but after that it was a cinch. The gate lock works great except for one weakness. The lock motor pulls a tongue back that releases the pin that's mounted on the gate. If the pin is not pushed all the way to the back of the tongue (so that it doesn't have any pressure against it) the motor doesn't have the strength to pull the tongue out of the way to release/open the gate. I have to tell people to push the gate into the lock then I press the button and it works great. With this gate lock system I no longer have to remember to lock the gate when we leave home, and when we come home with groceries we can leave it in the unlock position so we can unload the car without pressing the combination every time.

As other reviewers have experienced, my Mighty Mule arrived and the keypad was dead out of the box. I contacted the company, and they replaced the keypad after I returned the defective one. The new keypad works, and the lock is great. Installation was not difficult (the hardest part was getting the wire through a conduit). The lock and (replaced) keypad work as advertised. Opening the gate is easy with the combination or from inside the back yard with the pushbutton. Setting a separate code for our yard man was easy, and can easily be changed or cancelled. Codes can be set temporarily, too. Great product, and the only reasin for the 4 star rating instead of 5 is the initial bad keypad which seems to be a common occurrence.
