This is the cheap low end model, doesn't get much worse then this for gate openers... and it works fine! This model is good for the light weight ranch tube gates. Make certain your gate is in perfect shape, do NOT buy any opener unless you have a well installed functioning gate.

I gave four stars because I couldn't program the "Stop Limit" function (this is how the gate knows to stop when it's perfectly closed). Customer Service told me that this is a common problem and you need to make sure you have a good distance between the control box and power arm. I stretched it out as much as I could, and it still didn't work. So I re-mounted the hardware to close perfectly with the factory settings (since I couldn't change them) and it worked great. Maybe try this the first time if you buy one in case you have the same problem as me (they say it's common).

With that said, it's been four months of absolutely perfect operating and this includes the keypad entry and push button exit (I suggest adding these for your friends). I've also had a very old model (square arm kind) and it worked for almost ten years - not too bad!

If you got a GOOD gate and a few hundred bucks in your wallet, buy this. You'll feel "rich" when you come home after work.

This is our second opener from GTO. The first (model FM350) we purchased 8 years ago. It did not work out of the box and after a week of constantly calling GTO, without reaching anything but an answering machine on their non-toll free tech line, I finally managed to speak with somebody and get a replacement unit sent out. This unit worked well with little trouble until last year. I looked for a replacement and found this model at a much lower price than the FM350. I was surprised to find that it was not a direct replacement for the FM350 and its installation was entirely different from the FM350. It also seemed to be the FM350's very tiny cousin.

It worked for 60 days and gave up the ghost. Based on my previous problems reaching GTO on the telephone 8 years ago, I was hoping things had changed. I called the toll free number on the opener and, as 8 years ago, was told to call a non-toll free number for tech support. Once again a call was made and a message left. The great recording that plays over and over again while I was on hold told me to "register your tech support problem on the internet." Ok, I will give it a try. I navigated to the warranty support page and noticed a trouble shooting check list. Great, maybe I can fix the thing. I pull down the menu of models and everything under the sun except for the FM200 is listed. Great. I finally find the page to "open a repair ticket" and do so. And, I wait and wait. Three days later I get a great message from somebody telling me to call them. Why didn't I think about that! What ever gave me the idea of going to the internet? Ok, call again and again and again. I finally get a person after a week of calling. The call goes like this: Welcome to GTO customer support my name is Mike. Hi Mike, please give me a supervisor.

Instructions are poorly written and hard to follow.

Getting the mechanical hardware installed with the correct dimensions and geometry is moderately difficult even with the instructions provided.

The wiring diagram for the FM200 model is NOT included in the multi-model installation manual provided with it.

Telephone support - Several times required waiting up to half an hour on hold. This telephone support is available only during extended business hours Monday thru Friday.

Tech Support representatives were helpful, patient and effective when contacted.

The wiring and cables and control box are lightweight and easily subject to vandalism and weathering.

I average 2 breakdowns a week troubleshooting, repairing and reprogramming this opener. The metal hardware is under sized aluminum which causes pieces to bend and warp under normal use. The opener itself is mostly plastic which has begun to wear and bend at stress points. The number of tweaks and adjustments needed to operate this opener are numerous and require regular re-evaluation. Do not try to install this on a pre-existing gate, you should read the Mighty Mule instructions first and build the gate accordingly, otherwise you might have to go tearing up your gate to comply.

The instructions are good though, phone support experiences have been mixed and usually require significant hold time.

A design flaw is that the battery wire terminals are undersized, you will likely need to include a couple of washers underneath the lock nuts to get good contact with the battery posts. This was a multi-month headache for me that customer service didn't have any idea about.

You must purchase a Marine battery for this gate to operate, even if it's plugged into the wall or you use a solar panel, it will not operate without a $70 battery. The solar panel or plug are only used to keep the battery charged and do not in any way make the opener operate.

Operation is noisy with lots of beeps and alarms, there is no "silent mode" so the only way to stop annoying my neighbors is to cut the speaker connection.
