Mighty Grocery Shopping List

Mighty Grocery Shopping List is so much more than a grocery list app. This is an incredibly powerful, highly customizable, full-featured grocery manager that you will use all the time. It does everything short of cooking you dinner.

As for its extensive features, it allows for multiple lists, master lists, and full customization. It accounts for price, quantity, and taxes. It has a coupon indicator, aisle customization, intelligent voice recognition, Favorites lists, an accessible history, and a catalog of preset items. It even syncs with other lists, backs up to the Cloud, scans barcodes, and stores recipes.

The app streamlines your grocery experience, taking all the work out of it. You'll now always have your grocery list and key recipes with you, saving you time and effort. Normally, the wife and I use Grocery iQ, and it works very well. She adds something to her list and it shows up on mine so I know what to get. I thought I would try this one out since it was offered as a freebie. I'll be using Grocery iQ as my comparison for this review. For those wondering, this is the full version, so all the full version features work just fine. Why they are still marked as if they won't, I have no idea, but I went through several of them and tried them out to make sure.

I found that the interface was way more complicated than what I was used to. Yes, "feature rich" can be a good thing, but I found myself being overwhelmed by multiple menus and things being all over the place. It's like it needs a simple view option to drill down to just the stuff you're likely to use on a daily basis. Lists, sublists, menu, submenus, etc. All very cluttered in my humble opinion.

Try as I might, I could not figure out just how syncing works. By that, I mean that how my wife and I could sync the lists between our two phones. I found the help section to be not totally clear on how to set it up. For instance, it notes how to pull lists, but how does one select to pull the right list? Anyhow, I would have to set it up on my wife's phone, as she would be lost pretty quickly. And, she would have to buy this app too.

I found that the scanner works a lot more quickly than with Grocery iQ, by a couple of seconds. Items scanned in each where found and not found equally. It's a little more obvious how and where to use this in Grocery iQ than in Mighty, but that goes back to the interface of Mighty being way more complicated in general.

After a few hours of tinkering, I think we'll be sticking with Grocery iQ.

Droid X(2.2.1)

As far as android grocery lists are concerned, this is awesome. Best i've used. So many features, and does everything you'd expect to be in a grocery list app and then a whole lot more. Before amazon decided to give this one away, I was already using the free version. When I started up the pay version, It asked me right away if i'd like to import everything from the lite version, awesome! Multiple lists, check out and it goes to history. Favorite items, as well as recipes. Barcode scan with the help of a free barcode scanning app. Sync to account. If you're having an off day, can go through a list and just select items. You can also share your lists with anything else, so if you didn't want to buy the full version, you could still dump your lists to your email or share them on facebook etc. And almost forgot, automatically places items you add in appropriate aisle/categories(Add milk, it goes to dairy category), sweet.

With all the features, on a mobile platform, it's not always extremely useable. Something like adding a recipe, and then adding the recipe ingredient list to your grocery list, can be confusing. I'll also forget how to get to a place, and have to tap around a lot to get there. Some of the menu icons don't make too much sense, aka a lightning bolt means "edit mode"?! lol, so I have to click to figure out what it does, and have to do this again a few weeks later when i haven't looked at app in awhile. I wasn't able to create an account today(internet connection error), although unlike other reviewers..not going to dock this app just yet for that, give it a chance people. Might be a bit heavy for the casual shopper as well.

I also saw the negative reviews and was worried about downloading this application.

But after reading the reviews the issue seems to be with the 'dev'. Over and over again these reviews seem to have a pattern.

The UI is fine
It doesn't crash on my G2
It's not stealing my data
It will do the job

I say try it for youself and remember its free, you can uninstall it then post your reviews

I moved from Mighty Grocery Lite to the pay version a couple of years ago and have not been disappointed. The program has many capabilities, so there is a bit of a learning curve if you want to use all of them. Never-the-less, I find that I use it all the time and have set up lists for numerous grocery stores, hardware stores, bookstores, etc. Once you get used to using it, it becomes almost automatic. I find that it takes only a few seconds to re-list items as I use them. If you set up aisles for the stores, the program conveniently groups the items so that all the frozen food items, vegetables etc are grouped together and you can quickly purchase them and delete them from the list. Since starting with Mighty Grocery, I have had 2 problems with the program (one was my misunderstanding, and one was a problem with an update). On both occasions I received a response from the programmers and the problem was resolved within hours. It's hard to ask for more than that.

When I downloaded this app, I was looking for something to keep a list of my groceries better than a notepad. I can say that this app does that and more. Adding items to the list is easy and once an item has been added, it is always available in the future.

It is great that I can have multiple lists for the different places I shop at. Another great feature is that you can note what isle items are in, so that the list is automatically grouped which reduces the time of walking back and forth around the store, or having to look up and down the list at every stop.
