Very Talented New Artist From Canada Shines On Sophmore Effort, September 26, 2008
This review is from: Mighty Ship (Audio CD)
Angela Desveaux is a great new talent and, if there is any justice in the music world, she will garner a lot more attention in the near future. A very gifted songwriter and singer, allmusic.com categorizes her as "Country", but she is much more "Alternate Country/Rock" or "Country/Folk" than pure "Country". Any one who enjoys the music of Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards, or Sarah Harmer owes themselves a long, hard listen to Angela on this CD as well as her first, "Wandering Eyes".
Her lyrics are intelligent & her voice is warm, smooth as silk & somewhat sultry - very engaging to listen to. At times, she sounds startlingly like Lucinda Williams - she possesses a similar timbre to her voice as does Lucinda, and some of the same inflections as well. Her new backing band on this album is tight and polished, but not overly so. The production quality on the recording is very good, the sound having depth & warmth. I cannot recommend this album enough!
