What a great book! Beautiful, hard cover, great photography. I saw this author on a local news show in Chicago and decided to give it a try. He uses 25 different spices from around the globe (some you might not have used before, but are available on line if not locally) though not more than 5 per recipe. These are all very doable, quite simple meals. So far I've tried 10 recipes (with many more sticky noted) and all have been winners. I can't wait to continue the journey through this book!

I downloaded this book off Netgalley to review it. This cookbook is fantastic on many fronts. Although, you wouldn't use (or at least I wouldn't use it) for everyday cooking..this book is fantastic for when you have a taste for something exotic. Furthermore, the author included beautiful pictures of the finished products, which I know always helps me. I would say the only drawback to the book was in a couple of the recipes, spices and fishes were used that won't be readily available at your local grocery store.

This new cookbook by John Gregory-Smith will have you enjoying the aromas of dishes from around the world in no time. Most recipes are accompanied by a picture of the dish, and each has a legend of the spices needed and ideas of what other foods would go well with the dish. He promises to use no more than five spices and delivers on that promise. It is interesting to learn more about the twenty-five key spices he uses and have an exotic recipe to try out right away. A few spices covered are: lemongrass, star anise, tumeric, and ginger. There are over 100 recipes to excite and encourage just about anyone. Come wake up your palate with some new treats today!

I really like this cookbook and can't wait to get a hard-cover copy. Reading on my Nook just doesn't do justice to the pictures. Some of our favorite recipes are: "Pomegranate, Fennel, Orange, and Watercress Salad" pg. 22, "Chinese Tiger Salad" pg. 28, "Grilled Haddock, Apple, and Coriander Salad with a Lemongrass Dressing" pg. 45, and "Grilled Red Snapper with a Mexican Salsa Verde and Corn Salad" pg. 151. I recommend this cookbook to anyone looking to add some adventure to their cooking. I received my review copy from Net Galley, and thank them for the opportunity.

I must say, I buy recipe books and never use them. This is one recipe book that I have cooked more than 7 recipes from. I first came across this book when a friend brought one of the curries to my place for dinner, I borrowed the book ad y husband didn't want me to return it as all the food was fresh and lovely. I then bought 4 copies on amazon ( tree for my friends as Christmas presents) and they also love the food that they have cooked. I don't use pre mixed curries anymore thanks to this book. It's honestly my favourite recipe book.

Have you ever tried to make something from a Thomas Keller cookbook for dinner that night, and you realize you have to stop midway through and leave the pot in the fridge for three days? This book is nothing like that. Every recipe is quick, easy and has AMAZING results. The only small comment I have is that the author has omitted "adjust seasoning [salt] to taste"... and a small bit of salt really brings the recipes to life.
