Editorial Reviews

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks sparked a revolution by sitting still. Her simple act of defiance against racial segragation on city buses inspired the African American Movement of Montgomery Alabama to unite under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Over the course of a year, the legendary bus boycot would test the endurance of the peaceful protestors, overturn an unjust law, and create a legacy of mighty times that continues to inspire social justice activists today. From the Teaching Tolerance series, a production of the Southern Poverty Law Center. An entertaining and educational documentary, featuring stunning original black & white footage, and music by Keb Mo, John Lee Hooker, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Rosa Parks Documentary for Students Grades 6-12, December 16, 2005
This review is from: Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks (VHS & Teacher's Viewing Guide) (VHS Tape)
This Emmy Award-winning documentary combines real footage, re-enactments, and interviews to tell the story of Rosa Parks from 1943 to the Supreme Court's striking down segregation in 1956. The soundtrack and editing are beautifully combined to create an engaging documentary. My students were spellbound--there wasn't a sound in the room until the end when many clapped and cheered. Make sure to preview the video before showing students; there are instances of mild adult language and use of a racial slur. This unrated film is appropriate for students in grades 6-12.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOD BLESS ROSA PARKS, November 1, 2005
This review is from: Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks (VHS & Teacher's Viewing Guide) (VHS Tape)
It is a must see film. To think that a Black woman in those times was able to stand up against the political machine and fight for what was right has got to be an inspiration to us all. DON'T MISS IT!!!
