Great little HDTV receiver for the Mac.,
This review is from: Miglia Tvmini HD Digital Tv Re (Personal Computers)
Actually it took me quite a while to find this little gem on the internet. My Google and Amazon searches weren't turning up HDTV receivers for the Mac. I did stumble on eyeTV products in an Amazon search but I was confused about the analog versus digital capabilities. There was also the matter of 'will it work with my MacMini G4'. After extensive review of the eyeTV site, It appeared that the Miglia TVmini HDTV was what I was looking for. I must admit I was still unsure if the G4 was good enough to exercise all its capabilities. Well I bought it anyway. It took me 15 minutes to set it up and I was receiving HDTV on 9 channels. Wow, that was easy. And the recording capabilities worked just fine. Here's a useful site: http://www.antennaweb.org/
This site tells you what digital TV stations are in your area and how strong the signal is. For my area it said a simple omni directional antenna would work for most of the stations, not all. They were right on target. The little antenna that comes free with the Miglia TVmini HDTV works pretty good. I get a few drop outs on several of the stations just as predicted, but most of them come in just fine. Still, I'm looking to get a better antenna. I just got to get that extra channel. The Philips PHDTV3 looks like a good choice. I'll have to try it and see. Good job Miglia!

works great, no analog though,
This review is from: Miglia Tvmini HD Digital Tv Re (Personal Computers)
It works! The antenna isnt junk either, I am getting almost all the digital stations from chicago 25 miles from sears tower with it inside my house sitting on my desk. I also get many digital channels that happen to be on the comcast analog cable in my area (chicagoland). Problem is that all the analog stations on my comcast cable are untuneable, so I cant watch those on my mac. Its not supposed to be a cable tuning box, just digital stuff, so its fine, I just thought it did that as well.
next thing to do is get a bigger/better antenna mounted outside and cancel cable (as I only watch a couple stations anyways). eyetv - works. cytv with it - works great! make sure you go and donate to that opensource project.

Unit Software is Highly Unstable,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Miglia Tvmini HD Digital Tv Re (Personal Computers)
I've owned this product for several months now and I did one unit software upgrade to ver 2.4.1. The software crashes quite frequently upon initialization. I had to contact support directly and I was told that this is a known problem and that I should roll back to ver 2.3.1 for better software stability. Sad to say, the older version is not much better.
The Miglia website is totally useless, and if you try and locate software updates via the support link, you will be going in circles and not getting the information you are seeking. When I did get to speak to support about returning a defective unit(which they took care of in a timely manor), I told them about the issue back around August 1, and almost a month later, nothing has been done. This is a sad reflection on how much they care about the customer and I really doubt they are doing anything to improve their support website and/or the stability of their unit software for the Tvmini HD. Save yourself some grief and stay away from this product!!! This is purely an issue with Miglia/Elgato and not Amazon. I have bought other items from Amazon and have had complete satisfaction.
