This review is from: Migrating Legacy Systems: Gateways, Interfaces & the Incremental Approach (Morgan Kaufmann Series in Data Management Systems) (Paperback)
The authors give an 11-step process to migrating legacy systems, which they rightfully define as systems for which changes to it are too difficult but which are nonetheless important to maintain. They analyze the kinds of systems that need migration and offer different suggestions regarding the migration path.

This work is an honest appraisal of the difficulties however, and notes failures and the reasons for them.
