For those who really want to know,

This review is from: MCSE Migrating from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000 Study Guide (Exam 70-222) (Book/CD) (Hardcover)
The MCSE series published by Syngress is the best set of books published on the topic of Windows 2000. I went from several other publishers and landed here, thankfully, before spending too much money on tech books. The material in this whole series is presented in an in-depth, fluent manner. The editors do not waste time with sidetracking material I've found in other books. If you are taking the Windows 2000 certs, you'll know by the time you hit 70-216 that Microsoft has gotten serious with these exams. This series will help you prepare effectively for these certs. This book in particular is not for the person who hasn't taken the four core exams yet, but for those nearing completetion of the Windows 2000 MCSE certification. I didn't understand the statements of the previous reviewer of this book. Why would anyone take this exam first over the four core? If it is for a job, then don't you think you would want to have an understanding of Windows 2000 before implementing it in your business environment? I hope that people don't assume Windows 2000 is anything like Windows NT 4.0, it has similarities, but for the most part it is vastly different (and superior). Knowing it thouroghly will be the only way to use it efficiently, and this series provides, in my opinon, the best way to get there.

This review is from: MCSE Migrating from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000 Study Guide (Exam 70-222) (Book/CD) (Hardcover)
Hi there !There are few books about 70-222 to pick from, so I've purchased this one in addition to Exam Prep 'Migratinng from NT4' (which I based my studying on). It's always a good rule to have several sources to prepare properly. I stick to my point NOT to purchase any study guides/training kits/readiness reviews published by M$, because DO NOT consider it as right source for preparation (that's after 5 exams complete) Well, just passed the exam (not proud about the score ;) No courses taken, just self-training with homegrown W2K LAN. Things I liked in this book: - Good chapter summarization (cert summary + two-minute drill + Self test quez) - Exercises integrated everywhere within chapters - Helpful Scenario & Solution situations - Not bad self test questions Things I didn't like : - I don't think the book structured properly, thus hard to work with. Also many subjects repeated with no reason. - Several subjects poorly covered (unfortunately, the ones from the exam) - The whole migration process was NOT described properly (types, tools, tasks) - 'From the Classroom' section is quite usless (there goes the 'only classroom-based training (..) system) - Too much info NOT related to the actual exam - Nothing special with the Exam Questions as well as the Cert Trainer CD itself (however authors very proud of it) After all I think this book can be useful as additional source. Good luck for everybody ! The exam is not hard ;) Chef Cheflab.com

Informative, but confusing,

This review is from: MCSE Migrating from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000 Study Guide (Exam 70-222) (Book/CD) (Hardcover)
I got this book planning to pass this exam as the last elective for my 4.0 track MCSE. This book assumes that you have a thorough knowledge of the Windows 2000 environment, and does not explain any of these concepts to you. If you already know Win2K well, this book might help you, but as for me - I'm going with the Exam Prep (from Exam Cram).
