This book, Miguel de Cervantes (Hispanics of Achievement), is a wonderful way to acquaint yourself with the man behind one of the most brilliant and timeless novels of all history, Don Quixote. This book takes you through the very eventful life of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It tells of his early life moving to various areas of Spain, his participation in the Battle of Lepanto, his imprisonment in Algeria, and the surroundings before, during, and after writing his most famous novel, Don Quixote. Cervantes' life is told as tragically as that of his knight-errant. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I suggest it for anyone who wants to know why a poor 58 year old, ex-soldier, ex-tax collector who was imprisoned for 5 years could wind up being an idealistic writer who was responsible for one of the best novels in all history. How could a man who endured such pain, suffering, poverty, and tragedy write with such a sense of humor?
