I have heard about this show when it was performed near by me and a director I had loved it. A year later he gave me the CD and I am upset I missed it. I have never listened to a musical theatre and have been so excited when I was done. Not only is the CD amazing, but how the writers have adapted the G&S text and melodies to jazz, pop, gospel, and R&B styles. The CD features amazing performances from a great cast and a really strong tight jazz combo. My favorite number being the first act finale, I could listen to that all day!

This CD from the Musical The Hot Mikado, is one of my favorite CD's to listen to. I actually am a big fan of punk and ska, and have never listened to any musical soundtracks. My girlfriend made me listen to it, and i fell in love with the sound. The Orchestra pit is amazing and the singers are second to none. I reccomend this CD to anyone who loves music.

I had no doubt when I bought this I'd love it--I'm a big Gilbert & Sullivan fan and listen to the D'oly Carte recording of the original Mikado. This jazz version is great fun, with some stunning performances. And slightly less likely to earn me funny looks from my roommates who hear me listening ;)

Saw a production of this in Boston this year and loved it! A swing and jazz version of the Mikado. Unusual and quite fun. If you are familiar with The Mikado, this may grate on your ears the first time you hear it. I had the tendency to want to sing along with the tunes I know! But give it a second listen and it really grabs you. I've been playing this regularly since I got it.
