5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific glassware with a little flair
I'm a fan of stemless wine glasses for their stability (and correspondingly, the decreased likelihood that wine will get spilled on the carpet or furniture). The etching on this set make them a fun version of a practical item. Unlike other reviewers, I have found them to be quite sturdy and durable.

Glasses are lovely with etching and at first practical without the stems. However, 3 of the 8 I ordered came with cracks from the etchings. Another simply broke in a circular section where there were no etchings. They are obviously flawed seconds. They are definitely not for frequent use, no matter how carefully they are handled.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unacceptable compared to stemmed Cheers glasses, February 6, 2011

Both the balloon goblet and white wine style of these glasses with stems are great, high quality items. The detail is deep and consistent. Guests frequently comment favorably on them since they are so distinctive

We had a visitor who broke several of the stemmed glasses so I ordered replacements and also a box of the stemless balloon goblets and two of the stemless white wine goblets, which looked more modern and less breakable for the next time our clumsy guest visits. The stemless versions look and feel cheap. The weight of each of the four glasses in the set varies considerably. The detail is not deep and is inconsistent like they had waited too long to replace the grinding tools. The detail is barely ground into the glass and there are actual gaps in the one with the stripes. In contrast the detail on the stemmed version is deep and looks great.

One glass looked like they overheated the rim during manufacturing and it slumped inward. There are bubbles in the glass and one had a scrape mark on the side. These things would not be acceptable as seconds and I had paid full price (well, Amazon full price).

I checked the bottom of the glasses and that told the story. The good quality stemmed glasses are made in Slovakia. The stemless versions are from China and look like Mikasa took the low bidder and never did quality checks.

I'm really disappointed because I like the stem version so much. All together I have purchased seven boxes and all had consistently high quality.

If you go for the stemmed version watch for the 4 for 3 promotion. That will give you twelve glasses plus four free spares for when your aunt comes to visit.

1.0 out of 5 stars flawed and pitted with air bubbles too in glass. horrible quality, December 5, 2010

I was really looking forward to these, giving them as a gift. I thought with the Mikasa brand name they would be nice quality. Item arrived very quickly -- but I was shocked at the poor quality. The etchings on the glasses are not quite cleanly done, not horrible but not as nice as I'd expect. But the worst part is the quality of the glass itself. On each of the four glasses, there are at least one or two pits or air bubbled within the glass, very obvious to the eye. Also a couple of other marks I wasn't sure were scratches but on closer look appear as air bubbles close to the surface of the glass that just left a "marred" impression. When I saw the first glass had a defect, I was disappointed and thought it was a fluke -- these things happen, of course. But on closer inspection that wasn't the only flaw on that glass and then EVERY one of the other 3 was similarly flawed. I would not use these in my own house, and would never ever give them as a gift. It is in fact the poorest quality glass I have ever seen -- inferior even to the cheap Libby style glasses for which you can get a set of 12 for less than $15. These aren't anywhere near worth $35 -- in fact they aren't even worth $5. I sent them right back. Will look for a similar gift of better quality. And will NOT be so quick to ever trust the Mikasa name again.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 Broke Within First Few Uses, December 13, 2011

I love these glasses. They are attractive and generous in size. We use them for wine and cocktails too! However, I am so disappointed with the quality. One broke while being hand-washed THE FIRST TIME we used them. Ugh. The second one broke a month later while also being hand washed. What gives? I will not buy these again and would caution folks against spending/wasting their money on these.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but very fragile, January 16, 2011

These glasses are pretty and modern looking, and I love that the etching on each one is different. But the glass, especially around the top, is very thin and fragile. One of them broke the first time I put it in the sink, simply by coming into contact with another glass. Another one broke (into several pieces, not just cracked) in the dishwasher. I now gingerly wash the remaining 2 glasses by hand, but I'm disappointed that they aren't just a little more resilient.
