4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely pattern, but big "made in Korea" stamp on every piece
Love this flatware, simple, elegant pattern; nice weight & balance, but on the back of every piece is a "MIKASA Made in Korea" stamp that's way too large to miss. This logo unfortunately detracts from an otherwise versatile design, rendering it inappropriate for anything beyond "everyday-friends & family" use.

Mikasa, if you're listening: hiding the tacky...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware: French Countryside 18/0 Inferior Stainless Steel
Just bought Mikasa French Countryside set of 20 at Tuesday Morning and the flatware is stamped 18/0. Mikasa changed to a cheaper grade of steel. 18/0 will not maintain luster. The Mikasa box advertizes 18% chromium, but the 10% nickel that you would expect is NOT listed.

Mikasa, if you're listening: hiding the tacky logo would be a great way to improve this product's appeal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great set of flatware at a great price!, October 7, 2004

This set of Mikasa flatware is really terrific for a number of reasons:
1) It looks great. The pictures shown here on Amazon don't do justice. The flatware has a great luster and is simple, but elegant looking.
2) The pieces feel solid. Each of the flatware pieces (especially the knife) has a solid, durable feel to it. Part of this is because the pieces are a bit oversized.
3) The price! At $20 a set, this is really a steal.

OK. Those are the good points... but there are a couple of tradeoffs. Here are a few negative points (although they are relatively minor):
1) The pieces are 18/8 steel. This is lower quality steel than 18/10. Although the pieces are made in Korea (which has better steel production than China), the steel itself is not "premium" quality.
2) All the pieces have "Mikasa" (as well as "Made in Korea" and "18/8") PRINTED on the metal, rather than stamped. Because it's printed (on the underside of the pieces except for the knife), it detracts from the flatware's otherwise elegant look. I haven't owned my set long enough, but I'm guessing that the print will eventually wear off (hopefully).
3) The spoon is really big. Although all the pieces are a bit oversized, you will notice right away how big the spoon is.

All in all, this is a terrific flatware set for $20. Although there are some minor issues, those issues are really minor (no more than 1 star's worth). If you're looking for a casual flatware set, I strongly recommend considering this one. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely gorgeous flatware set!, September 9, 2006

I just recieved this set today and am enamored with the look, feel, and balance of the pieces. Absolutely worth the money spent! It does have a "Mikasa - Korea" stamp on the underside of each piece, but it did not detract from the piece's elegance as much as I thought it might when purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mikasa made same pattern in different sizes and quality, January 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mikasa French Countryside 5-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Place Setting, Service for 1 (Kitchen)
Mikasa has made French Countryside flatware in 18/10 and 18/0 stainless. The 18/10 stainless has smaller teaspoons and salad forks and the pieces are different lengths than those made from the 18/0. They are both made in Indonesia. The 18/0 has a teaspoon with the bowl almost the size of the tablespoon and a large salad fork. The 18/0 set is thicker, larger and made of weak material that scratches very easy. All the 20 count and 45 count sets that I have bought or seen in stores have been made from the 18/0 stainless. The individual place settings GF106-599 that I bought from Amason are 18/10. I unknowingly purchased some 18/0 and had to return it, what a hassel when bought on line. If bought through Amason they will stand behind the purchase and pay return shipping. It is very difficult to find a Hostess set in 18/10. The Hostess set with the pie server that I purchased ended up to be 18/0 and even new in the box it was badly scratched. The 18/10 stainless has a beautifull refine style, looks like sterling. As for Mikasa: my last set from them has resin handles which are craking and/or comming loose from the stainless, thats why I have choosen a piece without seams this time. If you can find the set in 18/10 it might be worth the hassel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Favorite flatware pattern, December 22, 2010

This is a wonderful product. I originally bought an 8-place setting, and recently expanded it to 12. The pieces are well balanced. All the pieces are very easy to hold, they don't dig into your hand. Very easy to wash, and dishwasher-safe. The tea spoon and the table spoon are a perfect size. The design is very elegant and looks pretty with the fanciest dishes. Yet they are sturdy enough to use every day - as we've been doing for many years. Couldn't be happier with it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Where, oh where, has my flatware gone?, July 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mikasa French Countryside 5-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Place Setting, Service for 1 (Kitchen)
I ordered two 5-piece place settings of Mikasa flatware, but was sent the wrong pattern. I was told the Silver Spoon would send a label so I could return the wrong flatware, but no label has come yet. I would have reordered, but they were out of my pattern, anyway, so I cancelled. I hope it's still being made by the time I find another place to buy it. :)
