Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Red and gold transform Mikasa's popular Parchment pattern into a version specifically designed for the holidays. The gleaming white china features a wide cranberry-red border lavished with delicate gold filigree. Gold also trims the edge of each piece. This 40-piece set includes eight place settings, each consisting of a dinner plate, salad plate, rimmed soup plate, footed teacup, and tea saucer.

Parchment Red doesn't have to be saved just for the Christmas season, however. A golden wedding anniversary, landmark birthday, or any significant event can be celebrated with this sumptuous pattern. Under normal household use, the dinnerware can be cleaned safely in the dishwasher. Handsomely gift-boxed, the set makes an exceptional gift for that special someone who loves to entertain. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

Parchment Red is one of Mikasa's most dramatic formal china patterns, and is now available in a full set at a fabulous price. It was first introduced in the fall of 2004, and was an immediate success for holiday entertaining. The white fine china has a dramatic red border with a bright gold band and filigree design. This complete set is a service for eight, including eight dinner plates, salad plates, rim soup plates, footed teacups and saucers.

My wife wanted two sets to match our new family room decor. Well, they turned out to be so beautiful that we have replaced our good formal china with this set. Really gorgeous pattern and color. The red has a slight orange cast and is not a perfect match for a more maroon red.

The sets arrived in perfect condition although the two outside box were very beat up. Excellent packaging. A fabulous deal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality control and packing skills are lacking., October 27, 2005

Recently I ordered the Mikasa Parchment Red Fine China 42-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service For Eight. Fortunately, I received the china, but unfortunately, the serving pieces were missing and one plate was defective. Following the guidelines, I packed up the china and Amazon sent a second set. All should have been fine, but no, it gets worse. The serving pieces were again left out of the order and now I have two thoroughly broken tea cups. I guess Amazon will once again want the china sent back, but how can I be sure I'll get 42 rather than 40 pieces in return?

Oh, the china is beautiful, but is it beautiful enough to overcome this aggravation? Not sure yet.

I had the same experience as two of the other reviewers. I ordered what was represented as a 42 piece set that included the serving platter and serving bowl. What arrived was the 40 piece set. When I requested the additional pieces (via email of course since you can't find the customer service number to talk to a person), I was told that a set could not be broken to ship the two missing serving pieces and that a 42 piece replacement set would be sent to me. I received another 40 piece set with 5 broken dishes-it was simply thrown into a box and shipped and when I arranged for pick up at my home, no one ever showed up!! I drove the repackaged 40 piece set to the UPS store to ship and weeks later I received an email response from Amazon telling me that the problem I was experiencing was "more widespread than they anticipated." No offer was ever made to credit my account for the missing pieces, nor was any other remedy proposed. This is the worst customer service I have experienced and will think twice about purchasing from Amazon in the future, although I have been a loyal and consistent customer for years. I'm STILL waiting for a satisfactory resolution to this issue (and I have kept the original set of dishes that were sent to me-without the serving pieces).
