Ridge Square Platinum sets a strikingly modern table for semi-formal dining. Made of beautifully translucent fine bone china, the pattern employs one of Mikasa's newest and most contemporary shapes. Plates and bowls are softly squared with curved sides, and a wide band of silvery platinum is brushed along one edge for an asymmetrical look. A thin platinum line also trims the rim of each piece. Ridge Square is available in a gold version as well.

Any collection of Ridge Square Platinum starts with this four-piece place setting for one. The dinner plate, salad plate, and cereal/soup bowl, all square, juxtapose nicely with the can-shaped mug, which shows a platinum band under the rim. Accessories for the place settings include a sugar bowl (with a charming square knob on the lid), creamer, serving bowl, and platter. Because of the platinum accent, the china should be washed by hand and is not safe for microwave use. --Ann Bieri
