5.0 out of 5 stars Stacy Keech is Mike Hammer
These two Mike Hammer movies starring Stacy Keech are bubble gum for adults. Mike Hammer is surrounded by voluptuous women while making hilarious wisecracks via voice over narration. The plots really don't matter. Stacy Keech swaggers into one situation after another surrounded by women, and one in particular is literally dropped in his lap while she delivers his lunch...

1.0 out of 5 stars What does
Tough guy could mean different things. But in these two definitely dated made-for-TV films, "tough guy", aka Mike Hammer, means a guy who always wears a totally out of date fedora and attracts every single hot looking woman who ever lived in the world and beds about 80% of them.

OK. Sounds like sour grapes, right? Yeah, maybe. Maybe that wouldn't be so...

These two Mike Hammer movies starring Stacy Keech are bubble gum for adults. Mike Hammer is surrounded by voluptuous women while making hilarious wisecracks via voice over narration. The plots really don't matter. Stacy Keech swaggers into one situation after another surrounded by women, and one in particular is literally dropped in his lap while she delivers his lunch. How is that for service? Keech should have been a stand up comedian, as his voice over comments are priceless. All you can do while watching these movies, is to envy the Mike Hammer character, as the entire female species is on the prowl for him, and Hammer doesn't put up a fight. No one but Stacy Keech could play this role, and any other actor who would dare try would pale in comparison.

These two made-for-TV movies kicked off the "Mike Hammer" series of the 80's and introduced Stacy Keach in the title role. And what an intro it is! With a wonderful blend of tough, no-nonsense and clever quips, Keach excels here. Great noir-style music and voice-over narration too. Here's hoping that all seasons will be released. Pick up the later Hammer series with Keach, "Mike Hammer: Private Eye," here at amazon.com as well. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder, deceit, and retribution., February 19, 2007

Ayn Rand mentions Mickey Spillane as having great literary potential, but though Mr. Spillane delves into the innermost being of Mike Hammer, Mr. Spillane had no interest in literary greatness. His admitted interest? Earning sufficient for a 'hang loose' good life. Mr. Spillane understands man's (and woman's) wants. Stacy Keach understands Mike Hammer, the Private Investigator often caught up in murder, mayhem and mercenary thought. Spillane, Hammer, and Keach present life as it is; filled with givers and takers. S. H. and K. aim to make takers pay.
If you want to more fully understand Mike Hammer, read Spillane's novels. If you want visual as well as mental entertainment, 'More Than Murder' and 'Murder Me, Murder You' will satisfy and allow something left-over for you to ponder. Spillane, Hammer, and Keach. A perfect trio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer double feature, August 6, 2006

I love all the Mike Hammer episodes and movies so this has been a real treat. Very fun. Somewhat cheesy in parts but that is to be expected because of the time period it portrays and the era it was made. Great stuff for Mike Hammer/Stacy Keach fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard-boiled Satisfaction, May 9, 2007
This review is from: Mike Hammer: More Than Murder / Murder Me, Murder You (Double Feature) (DVD)
I recall watching this show when it was first aired, and I still love the strains of "Harlem Nocturne" evoking the rains-spattered streets of Philip Marlowe and the darkened alleyways of Mike Hammer. Stacey Keach plays the private dick with his tongue firmly pressed in his cheek, while still radiating enough gravitas to help you suspend disbelief. These made-for-TV movies are fun, sometimes bordering on pastiche, but it's the way I like to remember Mike Hammer; no, he's not Marlowe, nor is he intended to be--but if the watchers can enter these films with a smile rather than a snarl, they'll find some fun here.

I loved this series when it was on TV in the 80's and it is still just as entertaining today. My husband and I would watch it with our 9 year old son who was taking saxophone lessons at the time and he learned to play Harlem Nocturne. It is still one of the greatest jazz songs ever made. I only wish like so many others that they would bring the entire series back on DVD and not just the made for TV movies. Stacy Keach was the best Hammer and I have seen all of the old movies ever made. It's too bad they can't make good programs like this for TV today instead of all the junk that's out there. Like everything else that is a bye-gone era. Too bad!

This is no doubt a fine "Double Feature" fare. However, I for one will hold out until the 2 later feature-length films, namely "The Return of MS's MH" and "MS' MH: Murder takes All" are released, specifically as part of a QUADRUPLE feature set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic character brought to life !!, October 24, 2011

This review is from: Mike Hammer: More Than Murder / Murder Me, Murder You (Double Feature) (DVD)
Stacey Keach IS Mike Hammer - end of story. These two films are great case studies of the classic hard-boiled detective genre. It would be really fantastic if the original 1980's Mike Hammer TV show could be released on DVD. These two movies are the "pilot" episodes for that show. It was not on for very long, but it was a great show.

This double feature is a MUST HAVE for fans of the genre.

Stacy Keach is the best Mike Hammer ever. DVD arrived in great order and on time as promised. I now have 3 years of Mike Hammer and plan to get the rest.
