I used Mike Meyers Net+ for the Net+ exam and easily passed. Since I enjoyed his books I grabed this for the Secruity+ exam.

Boy was I surprised when I went into take the exam the test was much more difficult than the book had lead me to believe. Needless to say I did not pass the exam.

The problem is this book does not cover in detail what it needs to cover. It...

5.0 out of 5 stars Passed Jan 27th!, January 27, 2003
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
I have just read the Security+ Passport by Trevor Kay and I must say it is one of the best cram book out there for this exam.
I took the beta exam and didn't pass because of lack of proper training material. I wrote the Security+ exam Jan 27th after reading this book and I got 820 (764 is a pass).
Thank you Trevor!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Crammer, January 31, 2003
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
I found this book to be an excellent resource for the Comptia Security+ exam. Each objective is covered fully throughout each chapter. The post chapter sample questions and exam tips I found to be a big help. I am now Security+ certified. I recommend this book as part of your Security+ training material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!, February 8, 2003
By A Customer

Well thought out! Documentation compared to CompTIA's Domains for the test is flawless. Alot of great material in less pages than any other book out there. CD is basic but has 2 tests on it that will help if you have had no security experience at all. Well worth your time and money. I used it to pass on the first attempt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the exam, February 7, 2003
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
For a smaller book, this one really packed a punch. It definitely helped me pass the exam. I have other books by Trevor Kay and I find them to be the same in the sense that he doesn't waste any time with non-exam related material. He likes to get to the point!

If your interested in just passing this exam and don't want to spend [the money]on a study guide. This book will definitely be the one to use... it's well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, March 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
I found this book to be a great resource for the Security+ exam.
If you have the recommended two years of experience before taking this exam then I'd say this book will be all you need.

If your a newbi and don't have any experience you should use this Passport book with one of the more larger books such as the Security+ All-In-one study guide.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT Nearly Complete!!!, August 4, 2003
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)

It glosses over and gives you 5 sentances where there should be 5 pages!

CompTIA's Security+ exam is not a basic entry lvl exam for grading first year IT persons. No this is the hardest CompTIA exam I have ever taken and this book will not prepare you for the realities of the test.

Take it from someone who knows and has passed the Security+ exam avoid this book and Security+ Exam Cram 2 (Exam Cram SYO-101), for more questions on the Exam Cram 2 book find my review of it.

The book I recommend and was recommended to me is the only book to use is: Security+ Study Guide and DVD Training System by Syngress Shinder Books. I have done a review of it so feel free to read it!

Erik; A+, Net+, Security+, soon to be MCSA.

2.0 out of 5 stars A supplemental review book only, July 25, 2004

This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
As many of the other reviewers have noted, this book does not contain all of the information you will need to pass the test. For tests like this, as many others have said, you need to use multiple sources. I used this book exclusively to study from, and although I was very familiar with all the information in it and scored 90% and 100% on the tests that are included on the CD, I was not prepared for the Security+ exam and failed. This book lacks many specific details that you will find on the exam, and does not even discuss some topics, or glosses over them. Find a more comprehensive source to study from (unfortunately I can't recommend one yet), and use this only as a supplement for review if you have it. I haven't written very many book reviews, but wanted to offer my opinion on this one to save someone the cost of the exam and the disappointment of failing it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so much a "Ticket to Exam Success", September 13, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
This book should not be used as your only form of study for the Security+ certification. Although helpful, it would best serve as a starter dish or desert for a more complete book like Gregory White's "All-in-one Security+ Certification". Defiantly not the main course.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning! Grossly inadequate study guide., July 11, 2004
By
This review is from: Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport (Passport) (Paperback)
Don't believe the glowing reviews. My thoughts are those were just the publisher or auther secretly promoting the book. The truth is this book grossly fails to cover the test objectives completely. I knew right from the start of the exam I was in trouble as the first two questions were nothing like what was covered in the book. Kerberos, Cryptography, Tunneling, and IPSec are just some of the areas this book fails to cover in enough detail. For example, something as simple as the port numbers for PPTP and L2TP weren't even mentioned in the book. Like another review, this book covered about 1/3 my test. I was able to answer another 1/3 of the test due to my 7 years of experience in the field, but even then I only scored 700 on the exam.

This book is more of an intro to network security principles than an actual study guide for the Sec+ exam. Buyer beware!
